When I was younger, I used to always overestimate the type of talent the Jets had. The Coslet and Carroll years about killed me; every year I was disappointed and pissed as the Jets collapsed down the stretch. Then I remembered a lesson that I learned when I was younger: If you are disappointed about an outcome that you had no control over, lower your expectations. I'm planning on a 5 win season. If they win more, I'll be happy rather than bitter. :)

Not at all. We are Jets fans. That sums it all up.

Never heard Herm referred to as "Herm the Germ" - very good - discriptive and paints an accurate long-term picture of his management skills.

I think everyone has been conditioned to think that we have to be bad. I just do not see it. Are we an elite NFL team right now ? No. But we will be competitive and the second half of our schedule is pretty easy. We were more competitive last year than our record showed, and the staff had completely thrown in the towel. We will have a good defense and possibly the best special teams in the NFL. Our offense is not terrific, but it will definitely be better than last year. Our main offensive problem last year was the offensive line and it was so bad, it cannot help but be better. We will win at least 7 games. I think we will improve rapdly and I think we have a chance to sneak into the playoffs. Don't get caught up in all the negative bandwagoning by the media. Things are not that dire, and "rebuilding" does not mean you cannot be competitive.

the thing that makes me beleive we can win is this...

    we lost last year with:

    1) a 3rd string QB....not a 1st or 2nd

    2) a handfull of Starters on the IR ( Barton, Mawae, Penny, )

    3) Martin was banged up and Blaylock was on IR as well...ala another 3rd stringer in Houston

    4) Herm Edwards at the Helm

    5) James Reed in the middle

    6) lets face it, our Oline was terrible last year ( fabini, Kendall at center, mawae missing)

    Now we have:

    1) Chad as a starter, again!!

    2) 2 capable starting running backs ( Barlow,Blaylock)

    3) A better offensive line

    4) no crucial injuries going into the season

    5) No Doug Jolley ( hahahaha)

    6) a healthy Defense

I see no reason why we cant do better then last year...we should! what is so different from the team that began the season last year ( other then Abraham) that we cant compete? i still say 7 wins at most but i figure that many of the losses will be close games

I can't speak for all sunshiners, but atleast for me, I am miserable as hell on mondays after losses, and all the days after that. After a loss, it's like it takes a lifetime to get to sunday again, just to get rid of that lost feeling.

Last year, losing week in and week out, was an extremely depressing season, watching loss and after loss reveals the harsh reality.

I believe all jet fans have to be equally miserable after losses, not just darksiders.
