Last I saw it was 7.5 mil garanteed, 5 years. He wouldn't make that much in football, and MLBcontracts are again, garanteed. He throws 100MPH. I've read he's projected as a closer..... and if he is as good as they say, he'll be a very rich man playing baseball. Heck, even if he blows his arm out, he could still play football. Smart kid, smart move. Besides, baseball careers are generally a while lot longer than NFL careers are.
this is very surpising, I thought he would go to the NFL rather than MLB. He'll be the next Carmen Pigniatello in the Cubs system. Career minor leaguer. Another bad move by Jim Hendry
Actually its football since he decided not to play football. Thats what the article is about. There is no way this article belongs in the BS section when it has impact on the draft.
I guess he's good from what you say but i'm not really up on baseball prospects. BUT SERIOUSLY...$10 million committed to someone whos playing "A' ball? Are they insane? Baseball organizations are insane this year. They're practically giving money away, and its just really dumb, all these journeymen pitchers are getting 8, 10, 13 mil.
Yeah it does. I see no discussion on the NFL draft, and barely anything of the NFL in this topic anyway. This is about a baseball contract and Jeff playing in the MLB. More than the majority of this thread is such. So have a happy MLB post.
I would understand if it was some no name undrafted free agent. However, he has first round talent, therefore it's more about the NFL Draft. How do you guys think this affects a team thinking?? Depending on how his combine went he could have been a mid first round pick just after Ginn and Jarrett went.
Too bad you or no one else spoke of the actual draft in this topic then. You'll learn to live with it.
Hahah. That's very convenient and a defeatist answer. And why the whole topic was moved in the first place. Cause no one was talking about it. Get over your moved topic problems.
That sucks, I liked baseball but after I became a baseball player MLB was not the same for me, so for me it was better to play it rather than see it, it became boring and too long for me so now I hate it but at least I can still watch the post season. As for Jeff, maybe he did the right move but as a football fan is tough to see a potential good receiver just go for another sport. Also, maybe it's the amount of games baseball play, 162 games is way too much, and they play the same teams again and again, that's why I like football more, every game counts and every game is important and even teams don't play every team of the league. By the way... Red Stripe is amazing.
Terrible decision, IMO... if he would've went all football then he'd be the 3rd or 4th WR taken, be able to play in the big leagues right away, AND probably would make more money then that on his first contract. But I guess he went where his heart is.
And if he gets hurt and has to owe money back? Or something drastic? MLB contracts are guaranteed, he's making ALOT of money for a guy who will be playing Single-A at the start. And look at the money of MLB contracts...If Gil Meche and Ted Lilly can make over $10 million per season...In 4-5 years, if Samardzija pans out and goes 7-10 5.45 ERA, that'll be good for $12 million per.
In what way was this a bad move? He drafted a guy who fell to the 7th (?) round of the draft because everyone assumed he'd play football, he chose the Cubs and now he's locked in to the system. If he doesn't pan out he doesn't pan out, he won't be the first. And it's not Hendry's money to care about. I rank this as a good move, and the right choice on the player's part.
he was called up today to fill a spot in the bullpen. 2 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, 2 strikeouts in his MLB debut vs. the Marlins.
