All fair enough. The only thing I would take issue with is keeping back a FB every single play to account for a weak line. That's not on the coaching staff, that's a lack of talent being brought in, and goes up to Tanny, just like the DLine situation. But yeah, I think we actually agree here. There are some tweaks the CS isn't implementing to give us a better chance, but the fact is, the personnel we're working with is subpar. Laying all of the blame on the staff for the poor execution on the field is flat out silly, therefore, this thread is one big joke.
This is who the loss was on yesterday: the front office. The preparation for this season was absolutely abysmal with no serious attempts to shore up the deficiencies on the offensive and defensive lines and no legitimate attempts to build quality depth so the Jets could withstand a possible injury run. The thing that's amazing is that for the second year in a row the Jet's injury luck has been amazing so far and they still can't win a game that's not handed to them on a silver platter. The biggest secondary factor in the loss yesterday was Chad. He threw the interceptions and failed to lead the team when leadership was required if the jets were going to win that game. What do you think the average player in the Jet's huddle was thinking after three straight dumpoffs in the middle of the field with :37 seconds to go and the Jets apparently trying to go for a tie, instead of the win that a solid veteran QB would have eyed with 1:56 to go on his own 20?
Who would you have gotten that would shore up the mess we have? This mess didn't happen in 2 off season and it's not going to be fixed in a couple of off seasons.
Yes, if there are mismatches on the field, the coaching staff is charged with utilizing players in a fashion where the team can win. If Drob is being manhandled by his guy, you run some stunts to get him free. You move him to end. You do something other than the same thing every down. If Chad can't make the throws, it's the CS's fault he's starting. You can place some of the blame on acquisition but the pass coverage I saw yesterday and in previous weeks was lack of discipline and lack for aggression, and that falls on the coaches. No one thing is to blame for the game yesterday, we failed on many fronts and coaching is one of them.
Stop putting words in peoples post, not one place did I used elite/great/etc. We have very good WR's, a very good MLB, very good safety, RB, etc. sure we are not NE with a boat load of superstars but we have people where we should not lose to the god damn Bills.
Don't get me wrong, I don't absolve the coaching staff from all guilt. I've been vocal that I think Sutton is a total tool. However, the premise of this thread is that the loss should be pinned squarely on the coaching staff, and that's ridiculous. Just like the coaching staff, this site was overwhelming (myself included) in support of Chad last week. Now we see the difference in how people feel. A week ago I thought Chad gave us the best chance to win. Today, I know better. If the CS continues to start Chad, then it's on them. Today though? I can't shift all the blame at them. As for DRob, Pouha made it into the game, and had a big stop. But I haven't seen one mention of that today. The CS did make an adjustment, and it worked. Unfortunately, nothing else did. We pulled off a fake spike. Nooge shit the bed. Can you blame the coaches for not having the confidence in this team to execute big plays?
We have a handfull of good players we may have 2 great players on this team Cotch and Rhodes. Yes we have some good players besides those two but on both sides of the ball and particularly on D we have a lot of stop gap journeyman type players. We aren't that different from the Bills who when they got good QB play are competitive with us. Vilma by the way isn't very good right now in fact yesterday he was outright bad on several occassions. Outside of one play by Pouha, one by Harris and yes even one by Vilma the middle of our D was awfull and has been consistently awful this year. The CS is getting hammered because the did a great job having a weak team in great shape out scheme some equally weak teams last year. This year our bend don't break D is allowing more points and our QB isn't fooling anyone. We need more quality players if we are going to be a consistent quality team and we need more great players to become a great team. And yes the Coach is a young guy who I think is pretty smart and will make mistakes but will get better and is worth giving a little time to develop.
There were good guards available in free agency. Eric Steinbach is the obvious target but there were others also. We signed Adrian Clarke. THE Adrian Clarke. Then we let go of Pete Kendall. That's called subtraction by addition and subtraction. Ben Grubbs is still sitting on the bench in Baltimore where the o-line is not a problem. He wouldn't be picking up splinters for the Jets. Aaron Sears is playing LG in Tampa Bay. He went on the 35 pick and the Bucs have given up 6 sacks and rushed for 548 yards in their first 4 games. Joe Staley, who is starting at RT for the 49ers was available on the 28. He'd be a huge improvement over Anthony Clements and part of a strong rebuilding process on the o-line. Ok, what 3-4 players were actually available on the 25? Anthony Spencer, the Cowboys emerging LOLB is one of them. He's behind Greg Ellis at the moment but getting a lot of play and already has two tackles for a loss and a sack. Would have been nice to put him at LOLB for the Jets and leave Thomas at ROLB where he had his breakout year, no? Alan Branch fractured his hand just before the season started and the Cardinals nose tackle position in the 4-3 has been up in the air since then. Right now Gabe Watson is holding it down but Branch will have the job when he gets back and going after the fracture resolves. At 6'5" 331 he would be exactly the kind of big body the Jets want in the middle of their 3-4. Realistically the Jets had real options at positions of need if they just held their picks or traded down a bit to pick up more depth. Instead they went to Bradwayworld to speak with the moose.
So you prefer those guys available in the Draft to getting Revis and Harris? Two guys who look like they will be tremendous players this year for us?
how can you say that. I'm sure that coaching staff is dialing up long pass plays all day but the dousche bag Chad just checks down on those plays. think about whats really going on before you give those kinds of statements. Chad cannot go deep so he makes the coaching staff look dumb.
I prefer two of those guys plus the likely trade down picks we'd have gotten trading down for some of them plus the two extra 1st day picks we paid for the privilege of drafting Revis and Harris. I watched the Jets go 3-13 and 1-15 just a few years after drafting Aaron Glenn on the 12 so I know Revis isn't going to stop that k ind of collapse if our talent gets too thin elsewhere.
I don't disagree with you about our front lines but I can't kill the CS for getting what may be 4 quality starters in Revis, Harris, Bender who is a project and Stuckey. If they pan out this will end up being a great draft on top of last years very good draft with potential for a great draft if Clemens turns into a franchise QB.
Not to mention we traded a high 2 for Jones. He's a good back but without a line in front of him he's no better then what we had last year. If Zach Thomas was playing last week we would probably be looking at 0-4 now instead of 1-3.
Please you were having good posts for a change. This past draft is not the problem. It is part of the answer. Looking back if we think one off season is going to fix the mess that was left for Mangini and Tannenbaum we are all smoking something. To be sure, Revis was picked on all day yesterday because Dyson is back. He still stepped up and made a monster play at the end of the game. Not one player you mentioned has shown more talent than either Harris or Revis and/or would have made one iota of difference in yesterdays game. The FO went for quality over quantity this year and it looked fine to me than as does it now. Also what was looked at as "luxury" picks such as a CB or a ILB is silly talk considering how freaking terrible the incumbents are!
Good afternoon all. This is my first post and wasn't sure which thread to put it. Now being out of the Marine Corps and getting the ticket, i will be able to analyze the team a little better. I am very upset at how the season is going and really hope this season doesn't turn into a disaster. How do you all feel about a big name d-line and o-line free agency next year. I think the draft is great, but i would like to bring in a big name such as Faneca. Once again, glad to be here.
Yes and posts like yours blaming ONE player for all the Jets woes is quite simply BS. If you want your god KC, guess what that's a CS decision, 4-3, guess what, CS decision. I am not letting the players off the hook, but this team can be made a lot more competitive than they are right now if the CS would better use the players we have. We were 10-6 with this team last year and that weak schedule shit does not fly, there is too much parity in the NFL, look at all the upsets this week. No such thing as an easy game/team.
Well my bad, I didn't really take the premise of the thread seriously at all. I write off every one of these threads blaming specifically one thing until they turn into a good debate, but if anybody thinks that Chad, the O-line, the D-line, the coaching or the player acquisition is singularly at fault for what happened yesterday then I wholeheartedly disagree. Coaching sucked, our lines suck, Chad was not good enough to compensate for those downfalls and the talent problem is a continuing issue for the past 2 years now. This failure is a team efort, as are the wins.
