    question For Shits and giggles....

If we make the playoffs and Geno gets hurt, if Sanchez is healthy, is he allowed to play?
This was a crazy discussion I was having with a friend...

I know he had shoulder surgery, but if he recovers quickly can he technically play? Thanks

Alex Smith is roughly in the low 20's in terms of QB rating, completion percentage, TD's, YPA, YPC.

I think it's possible that Sanchez could move up 12 places with the right supporting cast, great coaching and being asked to do as little as Alex Smith.

Is that something the NY Jets should want in their starting QB? Doubt it.

Alex Smith hasn't exactly turned it around any more then Pennington turned it around when he had a great year for the Dolphins in 2008 and was exposed in the playoffs the minute Baltimore decided to stop the running game.

Based upon pre-season alone Sanchez did win the job. Of course that is before he lost the job to Matt Simms.

I wish Mark luck in his career, but his time in NY is over.

If Geno is a good as most of the board seems to think he is, why such vitriol about the notion of Sanchez taking a pay cut to remain on the team. Sanchez should present little to no competition to Geno. The Jets would have their franchise QB as well as an inexpensive veteran "game manager" to back-up their future HOFer in the unfortunate case he were to get hurt.

I personally wouldn't be opposed to Sanchez coming back next year at a reasonable price, hes a high character guy with playoff experience.

I've always said Mark was mishandled by this organization and I think the kid can still be a viable starter in this league.
That being said I can't see any scenario where he's on this team next season.

You'd have to sift through the comments to find some that are realist or logical or even from this planet.

There are too many Anti Sanchez posters that will not give a second of thought to consider this as an option.

The truth is, Even if it Is Geno's team now, having Mark as a backup for cheap would be a benefit...

but even after that, I doubt it will happen...
IMO Mark deserved a Shot w/MM but that injury pretty much sent him packin' (No Fudge)

When I saw the thread title I was positive it was going to be take a big cock up the ass. Well done. I think Sanchez needs a fresh start. Too many fans have turned on him and he'll be booed for every little mistake, just not a good formula for a guy trying to bounce back. Trade him to the Jags or Bucs for a pick. Could you imagine Revis being reunited with Sanchez? He'd be so pissed cuz every great thing Revis did was counteracted by turnovers and terrible offensive play. He'd be doomed...... Until they win the superbowl in 3 years.

we have Simms as our backup and Garrard as our older QB to mentor the kids. Why do we need Suckchez to come is as an overpaid, older QB who has no accuracy. What can he possibly teach that DAVID LEE or MM can not teach? Thus why pay a third string QB with no accuracy and a weak pocket awareness big bucks to sit?

TB has a good young QB with a big arm and accuracy. TB will not pay big bucks to a third string QB with a limited arm and dancing feet in the pocket!

Now having David Lee and Marty Mornhigweg on the staff, I wonder if MS
would've been a better QB? Oh well, that ship has sailed.

Up until the point he was injured, Mark had the same amount of time with the new offensive coaching staff as Geno. And he only marginally outplayed a rookie. The expectation was that a 5th year starter should have been years ahead of Smith. Sanchez did not play well in pre season. I doubt he'd be much better if at all had he been the starting QB from game 1 this season.
