you can only help when things are going horribly wrong.

things are going very well for this defense. Why bring in more people that don't play on the field?

I don't know that the coaching staff will not still be under contract somewhat like when Rex took over for the Mangina in N.Y.They may bring in a new HC and let him weed through the CS and see who he wants to keep around.
Not sure how many years Mangina's contract was for but they may not want to pay him and all the coaches, too.|
There are some good coaches on staff over there, Ryan being one of them, and it would be wise to see what the new coach can salvage.

...why would Holmgren get hired and clean house?

Also, how is keeping the Head Coach and hiring his twin brother "cleaning house?" To me it sounds like a vote of confidence.

My guess is that if Rob is fired, and can't find a place on someone else's staff, no way Rex lets him twist in the wind. He'll be here as an assistant HC in some capacity. But I think Rex will give him every opportunity to get a job elsewhere first.

A few years ago, Oakland's defense was pretty damn good under Rob Ryan... #3 in the league...

But, Oakland as a whole started tailspinning. Hes a good DC, just hasnt had a lot of talent to work with. Schemes are great, but the players suck.

    See: Cleveland

Hiring Rob Ryan + Jets grocery bill = no 2010 FA signings

Dude - Vince Lombardi as GM, Don Shula as HC, with Shanahan and Bellicheat as coordinators would have trouble getting a wining record in Oakland. No one can win there until Al Davis is dead

With Rob Ryan?s proven track record and all the success he?s had ? I?m sure he?d be tough to land.

I'm sure if Rob has no prospects if Cleveland let's him go he will be the new linebacker coach. Just remember for all those saying we don't need help on defense, the current coach of the linebackers is still this guy...

Sorta off topic here, but why did Rex get such a cool name and Ris well Rob/Bob?

It's almost as if Buddy knew Rex had great things in store for the future.

I don't think Rex would want to put his twin in a situation that might slow down his own head coaching aspirations. Assuming he has them. I wanted Rob R two years ago, but we got Rex instead. Worked out well.

As others have stated here, leave well enough alone on our defensive staff. It would not be fair to Pettine who's done well.

I've wondered how their defensive coaching philosophies differ. Surprised it hasn't been discussed more anywhere. Do they run the exact same defense? Why wouldn't they?
