considering everyone thinks they should be the GM, you won't have much competition from typical message board posters.
I tried to kick in high school, but, I was not nearly as good as our kicker, the guy could BOMB the ball and I was very sad... So I played TE and MLB...plus now I don't think I'd pass a physical since I have no ACL in my right knee. Would really be a dream job tho, get $300,000 a year to kick a ball 50 times a year. Unless you get picked up by the Raiders and then you will be getting $1,000 a kick....
Even better would be if you could land the Pats fan and his nutsack inside the 5-yard line with consistency
hey all, thanks for the replies, had a good laugh i think i will get a hold of a few contacts here in nyc, namely crocmedia that rep'd benny when he was here, and send him some footage to pass along...i am 99.9% sure this will be a waste of my time, but i could do with a career change i can kick an aussie rules footy 60 yards and an nfl ball a little shorter and would need major work without a doubt on hang time etc but just the experience of getting a fat NO would be awesome if there are any significant updates, will be sure to post...lol.
I tried to kick a few FGs and good accuracy as to where I was trying to hit. Wasn't at a football field though, but I figured I had distance of around 40 without even trying much. Being a kicker is not a really tough job. I tried to punt as well and I can punt about 65-70 yards on a good punt, but not consistent like the other dude and would punt a 30 yarder as well. Of course you are staying about 15 yards behind the scrimmage line before you punt so those 65 yarders are really no more than 50. I thought about trying out, but can't get hold of the right people. Im still 25 and maybe one of these days a scout will come by as a spectator to watch my soccer games (Goalies can kick!).
For you kickers, make sure you are using an official NFL football with the correct amount of air in them. I can punt some footballs 50 yards, but the NFL ones are much, much tougher to kick
Like i said, when I was kicking FG's I was using a regulation size college ball. Going to go back out next week with actual football cleats instead of the much softer skateboard shoes I was kicking in.
College balls are pretty close to the NFL ball. I have heard that the college ball travels a little further than the NFL ball, but I really cannot confirm any truth to that.
Kicking is probably the strangest position in the 4 major US sports. You can have the most impact on a game in the least amount of time and no matter how many weights you lift or hours you spend practicing, you're only going to be 'at work' for about 30 seconds each game. Other guys are working out for 3-4 hours a day, running, lifting weights, etc, and are on and off the field all game long, yet all of their work can be saved or turned to crap based on your 2 second performance at the end of the game. You can be a super bowl winning hero (Vinatieri) or a two word insult (Scott Norwood), yet, you'll still only be out there for less than a minute or so. Even closers in baseball are usually out there for 5-6 minutes, and 1/18th of a game (kickers more like 1/60th).
Chrebet's dad made a video of all his catches in college and sent it to all the NFL teams. We all know how that story ended.
