That's great news Pam! I hear that FIOS is the way to go for Inet/voice and TV too. Now, you can open your own business from home, make lots of moolah and buy that NuWave oven...
fios gets a good grade from me as well - 2 desktops and laptop working fine from an internet standpoint..... though one of the desktops is fuked - and we have thrown in the towel.....spending 800 bux on a new dell. be back when it arrives for suggestions on what AV programs to install jil
jil Sorry I missed your computer thread but if you haven't bought the dell yet this deal is awesome. Just follow their instructions and you get a hell of a machine for just over 600 bucks. http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?t=1406607
I added 2 more gigs of RAM (now 4X1G) and BIOS only recognizes 2.8 gigs. Any combination of 3 simms and slots shows the same amount, so the RAM is at least good. I have an Albatron MB with the latest BIOS installed. Any ideas?
Mobo chipset updated as well? If so, then perhaps TGD might have a solution. I saw a few answers after googling your problem. One suggested that its the chipset and not the bios that determines how much RAM is recognized. That's why I asked about your Mobo's drivers and/or chipset updates...
I don't wanna nerd this out but, if you have the default 24 bit 255.255.255.0 mask, that allows for 254 usable IP addresses. I say usable because 0 and 255 are not usable for host addresses. I'm not sure the DHCP scope would default to a host mask or a 30 bit mask. I've never actually seen a consumer level router use anythign but a 24 bit mask. Just throwing in some cents
I have 4x1G of ram running in my system as well... and if you want your PC to utilize the entire 4gigs you need to upgrade to a 64bit OS. 32bit only supports up to 3gigs no matter how much you put in.
I may take that program off the list... its a good utility but seems useless with todays computers (minus Hiker  ) Just go to add/remove programs in the controll panel and remove it from there.
Hey, I like that little meter, I feel like I'm constantly being updated about how big a resource hog I can be
Is Malwarebytes mentioned anywhere in this thread? I have twice had nasty malware that was resistant to other things, but was handled easily by that program (more correctly, my children have twice had nasty malware that was handled by it).
I'll throw it in now  I actually just ran it for the first time and it found something. If you want to enable protection you will have to purchase this software just an FYI.
But shouldn't I see it in BIOS? I'm aware that XP 32 will only see like 3.5G, but I'm not even getting to that point...
hmm... that is strange. What are the voltage ratings for the memory you purchased? The BIOS might have it set to a lower recommended voltage level which could possibly be the issue. Whats the type of ram?
A problem has suddenly come up with my computer. All of my USB storage devices (flash drives, external hard drive) will not work - I get an unrecognized device error. The problem is not the devices, as they work fine on other machines; the problem is not physically any particular USB port (it happens for any open port); and other USB devices seem to work fine (printer, scanner, digital camera). This happened without warning yesterday; I've scanned in safe mode with Malwarebytes, Spybot, and AdAware, and scanned for viruses with Symantec. I've also used System Restore to roll back to earlier settings, all without success. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Edit: Further details. I booted up to Safe Mode (Directory Services Restore Mode), and the computer then recognized a couple of flash drives. After a while, however, it started "forgetting" them - when I clicked to a subdirectory on the drive it couldn't find the files that were there, and when I then went back to the main directory it couldn't find any files at all. When I took the drive out and then reinserted it, the computer didn't recognize it at all.
