Actually, you would have to hear the interview to know what it was he said and what question he answered before you can make that claim. This is what was written in the article that was linked to... Colon, a free agent who is expected to retire, said on ESPN Radio that if free agent quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick walks, Smith has reached the point where he can be the leader of the franchise. “I think Geno’s been humbled,” Colon said, via NJ.com. “I think he’s taken on everything; I think he’s ready to rise. I still have confidence in him. I think with the pieces we have around him, and continue to put around him, he can be successful. I honestly believe that. I think Geno’s a good quarterback.” What Colon actually said is in quotes. More than likely the question he was asked is "if Fitz walks, can Geno lead the team?". Without hearing the interview I can't say for sure either, but I would be willing to put money on it that the interviewer already put the stipulation on the question that Fitz wasn't an option. The things that we know he did say are not conditional to Fitz being on or off the team. Comparing Geno's and Fitz's stats just isn't fair to Geno. Geno never got to play with WRs as talented as what Fitz got to play with. He also never got to play for a decent OC. Any time Geno got into a rhythm with MM as OC, MM would pull him and put in Vick to run some stupid wildcat play that pretty much never worked and ruined any momentum Geno and the offense had built on the drive. Those that want Petty to start...lol. Petty falls apart under pressure much faster than Geno ever did. I mean just look at what WVU's defense did to him in 2014 (and our D wasn't that good in 2014). Geno may or may not be ready yet, but there is only one way to find out. My bet is that Geno will look like a completely different player with the talent that is now available to him and the coaching he is now receiving.
It would be great if a light turned on in Geno's head and he became a good NFL QB. I won't hold my breath waiting for it to happen though. I really hope this isn't what we're planning on.
You're not fooling anyone. You're not a Jet fan. All you do is run your mouth (like an illiterate) about Geno. _
I run my mouth? You can't come out ur mouth without a insult to just about everybody. I would bet your about 5 foot tall and 80lbs. So ur mad at the world shorty.
He said similar things last year after Geno got his ass kicked. He stuck up for Geno. He's not gonna bad mouth him in public. This statement means zero as far as what our FO thinks. That's all that matters
I'm the happiest Jet fan you'll never meet, I've got nothing to be mad about. You've mistaken my cutting whit because you don't understand it. Learn to write a passable English. Then maybe you'll get it. You're an embarrassment. _
I like how people on here think your not a Jets fan because they like a player on the team they don't.
I like how peoples heerz keep dumping on player what better that shitty player but keep fake still said same am wansnt funny aftrr thore pass cant 2 years talent any. _
Say what? Nevermind...I get it. You have to admit...GeNo hasn't done much as far as public relations. He just ain't the type of player that fans rally around. But he is the type of player that teammates wanna punch.
The only way Geno should start is if in the future he gets crushed and Petty steps in and he turns out to be Brady 2.0
