As much as I don't like Geno, I wouldn't take him starting as 2016 doesn't matter. If he is the best QB on the roster, he should start. I would just take it as a major off-season fail by Mac.
We got very lucky in 2013. That was a bad team that either won a squeaker or got blown out. 26th in point differential, 7th worst in the league. By comparison, the Bucs had the 7th pick in 2013 and went 4-12, which is what we should've gone. That's why we regressed in 2014, not because we got worse, but because we were bad to begin with.
I don't know if I'd call it major. Our only options were a drastically overpriced Fitzpatrick, a bunch of shitty overpriced options, a bunch of even shittier options, and Geno who is still relatively cheap. It's not like there were a plethora of choices for Mac and he ignored all the good ones.
You are falling under the same trap everyone else fell for. We were not a bad team as a whole. Yes, offensively, we were terrible but we had a very good defense that kept us in games against a soft schedule. A team is comprise more than just offensive talent.
RGIII wasn't overpriced. Also, I don't make it a habit of making excuses for my GM. He gets paid millions of dollars to come up with solutions to perceived big problems.
We were a bad team. The 8-8 record was much more luck than skill. And our defense was nothing special, 11th in total defense and 19th in scoring. Meanwhile, the offense was 25th in yards and 29th in points.
It being luck is your opinion. I felt confident looking at our roster and schedule prior to season to bet upwards of $500.00 that we would manage to pull out at least 7 wins in some shape or form. With regards to those rankings, don't you think having an inept offense would impact a team's defensive ranking?
If Geno's football IQ is a limiter, its effect will show up in his stats. The same is true of his leadership. If Geno's stats are good nevertheless, his football IQ and leadership either aren't limiters on his performance or don't exist. Given Geno's general statistical improvement I'm skeptical about your claims.
Sorry, I can't muster up any pity for Mac. It's a results business. If your offseason results in Geno as your Day 1 starter, then that's a fail in my book. It's the same standards I would apply to his predecessors and/or successors.
Well I guess it's your opinion against Mac, who watched Geno practice and play all last year next to Fitz.
Stats can show a QB threw for 300+ yards and 2 TDs in a close loss but fail to show that said QB running out of bounds behind the LOS during a crucial part of the game. Stats can show a QB played only 3 quarters of a game, but fail to explain it was because said QB did not start as discipline for missed a meeting. Stats can show a DNP, but not show that DNP was because that player got his jaw broken over $600.00.
Absolutely, that goes without saying. The fail would be solely based on the opinion I've developed about Geno from his college and early pro career. IMO, he is not a NFL starting caliber QB. In the end I'm a Jets fan, if Mac and Geno prove me to be wrong, I wouldn't be upset.
Let's keeping bumping the same thread. You can't fix a stupid QB. You really really can't fix a stupid QB. Hope is not a strategy. And you can't fix a stupid QB. Try the veal, I'll be here till Friday. True story. _
Yes, but having a good defense will also impact a team's offensive ranking, so in the end, the net effect is zero.
QBs who consistently run out of bounds and take sacks without making up for said sacks in other areas get low adjusted ypa, among other stats, which is a statisticially symbolic signal of low football IQ affecting a QB's performance. If one missed meeting and a punch mean anything, we should see some evidence of it in Geno's production (else it doesn't matter.
I don't totally agree with the notion that GeNOOO can't be fixed. History has certainly proven that that it can happen. There are many examples of the light coming on for guys later in their careers. The questions are how long and what kind of effort would it take for GeNOOO to be "fixed" and is it worth it for the Jets? Because I don't think GeNOOO is metamorphosing into the franchise QB we all hope for as we speak, I'm ready to move on.
Fuck an adjusted yap, running out of bounds behind the LOS when you are outside the pocket is not something you "mak[e] up for…in other areas". You simply don't do it if you are a NFL quarterback. Heck, I would have a hard time accepting that from a Pop Warner player outside of maybe the first instance. In my book it's the equivalent of shooting the ball in your own hoop in basketball. The first time it's done you may react like WTF. Anytime if that, you are thinking this guy is a moron.
