It's far from making light of it. Making light of it assumes I'm saying it's no big deal. Yes his favorite things....griping and being pissed off. Read between the lines.

If I was making light of it I would have said he should just shut up, quit his whining because there's a lot worse things that can happen than that shit. He's not Lebanese. He's not a cancer victim. He's not missing limbs.

He's a whiney friggin millionaire that doesn't want to work.

Coles wanted out of New York really badly to go to Washington.

Coles wanted out of Washington really badly to go to New York.

    Coles now wants...

Let me be clear here: I like Laveranues Coles ability to catch the ball. But he's not Terrell Owens, and even Terrell Owens isn't worth the drama he creates.

Not to say that Coles is a Terrell Owens in terms of the attention he demands, but you're either a team player trying to win or a distraction and right now I don't know where Coles stands.

    thats fine.

what aside from the camp report makes you think Coles is a malcontent?

like I said I just think its the media milking a couple publications for all they can since the FO is so tight lipped.

the fact Coles wasnt used to a vigorous camp doesnt mean he didnt put in the work. and come sunday i bet the "talking" will be done and the mangini work ethic will show

I don't know but Coles is the one that likes to go shopping or is it shoplifting in his case!!!

I do think its just the media trying to stir things up, since that can't be creative and come up with their own stuff. Instead they have to keep bringing up old shit!

Not only is it one old quote that is being recycled over and over, but there are accounts that it was actually said in terms of a joke. However, that doesn't feed the media's needs, so they have twisted it up, ate it all, and are now spewing it back up in different "articles."

Guys, please, do not be simple sheep. Do you honestly believe that if Coles was a problem that Mangini wouldn't make sure Tanny was on the phone looking to get rid of him? If Tanny was on the phone looking to deal him, do you honestly believe that not one of at least 25 teams would be willing to deal a very nice package to the Jets for him?

Come on. If Coles was a problem, he would not be wearing a green jersey in Tennesee this Sunday.

I wish Coles would shut up as well. He's the only asshole verbalizing thinly veiled distain for Mangini. Keep your moth shut and just play football. You'd think he'd be one of the NFL's premier receivers they way he runs his mouth. Its okay, he'll be gone at season's end.

Mangini is demanding respect early. Theres nothing wrong with that. He's just bringing back some policies that have been vacant from these players feeble careers since someone told them that they would amount to something back when they were playing high school ball. love ya LC but you and the rest of the boys are gonna have to remember what playing football was always about.

    Amen

The guy made one comment a couple of weeks ago. The way some people here make it seem is that he keeps repeating himself over and over which is not the case. This is exactly what the media wants to see when they do something like this and it seems a lot of the people here are, quite honestly, too stupid because so many have fallen for it.

JohnnyJohnson is an ass for making a joke out of Coles molestation.

The rest (okay not all) of you are suckers for falling for this media created drama. Read the whole 'interview' and the comments aren't that bad. Let the media feed you the word "brutal" a thousand times and you're thinking Coles is attacking Mangini. He's not.

I'm not going to attempt to change your opinion of me, but I will ask this: How would you explain a guy that wants more money going to a team and then bitching to get out, even though he got the money. Herm holds a beach party TC, and Gibbs doesn't. So he comes back last year with Herm still here, stating how happy he is to be back. Herm is gone, now he's complaining about how brutal it is. Maybe complaining, maybe not. Either way we all know he's a malcontent. You can't deny it.

I like LC, and I don't mind him using anger as his motivation, but if he comes out at the end of the year that he wants out, he's going to be stamped with stigma of being a lazy bastard.

That being said, I honestly believe the dude is just angry, so when he talks it may come off as directed anger, when in fact that's just how he talks. Add to the fact that the media seems to have a bone in their ass over Mangini's lack of earth shattering news conferences, and you now have the current situation.

Haven't hear Coles come out and endorse Mangini yet, though, have you? If he wasn't a malcontent and he was hearing all these reports you'd think he'd come out and endorse the guy.

The Jets beat writers are the most self serving, egotistical, Lazy, terminal nasty aholes, <insert negative here> that I have ever read. I think if they tried they could not possibly be any worse.

You would think with the country club atmosphere the last few years and piss poor results the players would STFU and work. Mangini and crew have a lot of weeding out left. The players have absolutely zero right to complain at this point.

My guess is Coles is the only player that will give a sound bite or two. Here are some new quotes I suppose:

    Jets' set-up has no letup

    By RICH CIMINI
    DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER

To help get his team in the right frame of mind for opening day, Jets coach Eric Mangini turned down the lights yesterday and showed a movie. The players probably would have preferred a nap.

After a physically demanding training camp that left some players grumbling and aching, the hope in the locker room was that Mangini would lighten up, allowing their bodies to recharge for tomorrow's opener in Tennessee.

    That hasn't happened.

Instead of scaling back the physical workload to concentrate on game-specific mental preparation, Mangini has continued to crack the whip, according to players. They practiced in full pads Wednesday and Thursday, which amounted to an extension of training camp.

Mangini is steadfast in his philosophy, basically the same plan that turned the Patriots into a dynasty. Obviously, it works, but that doesn't mean the players love it.

Once the preseason ended, "We kept pounding," wide receiver Laveranues Coles said yesterday. "We kept the pads on and we kept doing everything we did in camp. There's been no wavering in any decisions he's made or the way he's practiced. It's all been the same."

Many coaches back off at the start of the season, letting the players' bodies heal after six weeks of camp. It will be interesting to see if the Jets are stricken with the dreaded tired-legs syndrome against the Titans.

Does any of this sound familiar? In 2000, the Jets complained about being overworked by first-year coach Al Groh, but they got off to a 6-1 start. When they collapsed in the home stretch, it caused a player revolt.

Publicly, no one has criticized Mangini, but his taskmaster ways are wearing on his players.

"I guess this is his way of making a statement: 'This is not going to be what it has been in the past,'" Coles said. "Throughout my career, the week of the first game, it's been mental, not physical. But we've gotten both parts of it. He's given us the most physical part of it, and it's been grueling. Basically, he's letting us know this is what it takes to get it done."

Said Mangini: "I think the players have worked incredibly hard to get to this point."

Before practice - a typically light Friday session - Mangini worked on his players' minds, showing them a video of famous players and coaches waxing poetic about the excitement of opening day. It featured interviews with Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young and Patriots coach Bill Belichick, both of whom describe their experiences with opening-day butterflies.

Mangini wants his players to appreciate the moment - to a point.

"You can't get too high or too emotional," he said.

The video may have created the opposite effect. Said cornerback Andre Dyson: "He should've shown that film before the game. It got me kind of excited."

So where in this new article did Coles say anything bad? Do you ever hear about Pats players saying things like "Oh camp was grueling, but it was awesome"? Do you hear that from the Dallas camp now? How about Giants camp?

All Coles said in this article is that camp has been tough the whole time, and Mangini has not let up simply because TC is done. He did say he figured this was Manigni's way of telling them this is what needs to get done, and this is how to do it.

Originally, he said camp was brutal. So what? It was. We all know this to be fact. To Coles, I can honestly say "Thank you Captain Obvious!" Yet the media, with not a whole plethora of sound bites, simply recycles this and calls it grumbling. Compared to Herm's Happy Love Camp, yes, it's grumbling. Compared to teams that actually win games, it's not much.

Who doesn't complain when they are sore? Do you get sore sitting on the couch watching tv? Sorry, but it sounds to me like this is one of those situations where pain is a good thing, and the potential to hoist a trophy someday is a very good pain reliever.
