Defense is not really a surprise though…all of our corners are 5th or 6th round picks, right? We are on our third stringers at safety…the highest drafted safety we have is what, a third rounder in Davis? Outside of Mosley and Davis, our LBs are either converted rookie safeties or waiver wire guys, and Davis was kind of a first round bust that the lowly Lions didn’t think was worth keeping. We signed a promising edge for the first time since John Freaking Abraham, but of course he got hurt before the season even started, because Jets. we have JFM who has flashed some moments, and because we are so starved at edge thanks to years of Mac and Idzik and such, we signed him to a deal and of course he’s disappeared since then…again, because Jets. It’s not such a shock to say that our defense sucks because we don’t have very many good players thanks to injury and years of bad drafting. Seriously…outside of Q and Mosley (and maybe Bryce Hall), who of this group would start for any other team? Probably no one. And when you pile on a new scheme on top of a lot of rookies and then injuries decimate position groups, it’s not a shock. all that being said, giving up over 40 points a week is inexcusable…and we should NOT be that bad…this is literally historically bad play I think it will get better as our schedule lightens up a bit as we will face the Dolphins twice, the Texans, the Jags, etc. chances are we win one or two of those and maybe get a little bit of a lift, but we’ll see. you are what your record says you are…and in his third year on the job, JDs team is not any better than the team he took over, which is sad. Yes, he had a huge lift, but I would have expected to see a bit more progress to date.
It will continue to be the youth excuse cause Douglas keeps attaining draft picks. The way they're not panning out will just keep setting this team back. Echols, Carter (dos) Yeboah, Wilson. The only experience is on the DL.
This is why so many fans are fooled. Forget how many "starters" we got. Our last draft was stupid. For example. We didn't trade our gold and invested in a risky QB. That was a risky move but we took the risk, knowing the risk made it kind of stupid. Once we didn't trade the #2 pick, using 3 picks on a guard was stupid!. With all the holes we had were going to spend a 1st and two 3rds on one player? That is team building stupidity and amateur. In the second round we drafted another slot receiver onto a team with 3 quality slot guys. Do you really think that was a smart use of the second pick of round 2? BTW, I like Moore but at this point he isn't as good as Crowder and more notably - he was a luxury pick, not a need. He is a small speedy guy who excels in situational plays. Its nice but its a luxury and we had way too many pressing issues to invest in luxury. Especially when it wasn't a position of need. It was stupid. Carter is also good and its nice we got him on the lower rounds. Except I watched what actual good rookie RBs looked like yesterday. Harris in Pitt and Willaims in Denver are clearly their draft positions better than Carter. Carter is decent, but he is never going to be a top 10 RB. He is not a RB that you can break off huge runs or ice games when needed. He is a slightly above average runner who is a good pass catcher. The kind of back you bring in on 3rd down. Our DBs/safties (Sherwood, Carter, Echols) are blah. Servicable, but only starters on crummy teams. The whole draft was an example of how not to build a contender and squander draft capital at every turn. Furthermore - it was stupid. JD is incompetent at building and he should not be allowed another offseason. Or we are going to be here again next year.
As a Titan fan from 1960 what's new. August 6, 1960. The Chargers first play as a team Paul Lowe takes the opening kickoff vs the Titans 105 yards for a TD. That must have been an omen.
I do not agree with most of this but at least your consistent, except you wanting to go all in on DeVonta. You draft players not picks and investing in the QB was a smart decision since the last I checked we don't have a QB. (you do not win in the league without a QB). The AVT trade was brilliant would rather have all pro Guard or three GVR's? You are just wrong on Carter, he will be very good. Moore is a weapon that will grow with your QB. The problem is we had to many holes to fill in one draft an top that off with injuries and our defense looks like it does. We lost all of our safeties, we are/were playing Safeties at LB and our D-line has been underperforming. The offense will get better especially when Becton returns and GVR goes to the bench. Unfortunately I do not see how the defense will improve this season without some quality scheming . Luckily we have Miami next week that is struggling on offense, maybe just maybe we can stop somebody.
100% my bad. I confused you with the guy whose every other post is "fire JD." (BacktoQueens.) I'm really sorry.
Yeah our only option was AVT or 3 GVRs. Yeah slot receiver was a huge need and wise use of a very high pick. Yeah, with a bad o-line and holes all over the roster, it was smart to invest a top 3 pick on a QB with several red flags, and follow it up with 3 top picks on a guard. The draft was full of bad decisions, squandered opportunities, and was stupid team building.
Saying it again sarcastically will not change my mind that you are wrong. One all pro Lineman is worth two third round picks.
Was I the one that said our choices were 1 AVT or 3 GVRs? Sarcastic or not, that was wrong. I also didn't realize AVT was an all pro.
If recent trends continue the Dolphins will use the Jets as live target practice to get themselves right and score a good 30-40 points. And really boost their morale.
Miami has the 29th ranked offense, two ranks lower than us. If they light us up the sh#t will really hit the fan around here.
I'm already at the SHTF stage to be honest. This defense getting annihilated like this for 4 weeks in a row is simply unacceptable. I get we're not the 85 Bears here talent wise but my god.....
Sadly, it's probably coming. The one "good" game we've had since the bye was one in which we gave up 31-points. We'll probably make Tua look like the next coming of Tom Brady or Joe Montana.
Their terrible offense against our terrible defense. Loser gets the official, "should be fired award". I'm sure their saying the same thing at phinheaven.
The old unstoppable force meets the immovable object scenario. Except, yeah, nothing at all like that.
