Cowher, Gruden, Peterson, Saban .... Seriously? Nobody wants to coach the Jets, and I can't say I blame them. Why would you want to enter into such a toxic and negative environment? From day 1, every single decision you make will be scrutinized and criticized by the media and "fans" who believe they are more qualified to be a head coach. Uh, yeah, I think I'll pass on this shit show.
nonsense! coughlin has done it, and so has the tuna. if belicheat had not left, the jets press conferences would be the same as mangini's were. it's like running a business and dealing with the IT guys. you tell them what you want, instead of letting them dictate to you. :metal:
Well, essentially Rex's 1st 5 draft picks were on the offensive side of the ball. Along with picks traded for Edwards and then holmes. (albeit not high ones) The fact that didn't work out well is another issue. :shit:
Here's some food for thought. Has anyone noticed that Woody hired a guy pretty much like himself? Quiet, conservative and methodical in John Idzik? This is the guy he wants RUNNING the organization although he has a type A personality in Ryan coachnig it. Idzik is a one step in front of the next kinda guy and I might be wrong but he just doesn't strike me as the kinda guy that could be comfortable with a Type-A sort of personality reporting to him. That's why IF a coaching change happens, and with 2 years left on Ryan's deal it may not, I don't see Idzik making a splashy hire. In all likelyhood it will be someone he's either worked with before, or recommended to him by a trusted associate.
You don't really know that for sure. Four out of five first rounders on defensive players, OK maybe they are going BPA. Five first rounders in a row including 2 this year (and 2 at CB with Cromartie and / or Revis no less) you have to start thinking that BPA isn't really what they had in mind.
Why do you revert to absolutes whenever you're defending an untenable position? Any wonder why few take you seriously? It's fact that Rex has had an inordinate amount of sway in who plays and stays on this team. He also encouraged Tannenbaum to give Sanchez a fat extension. These are the facts Junc...no amount of ducking the truth changes that.
anyone who knows this game takes me seriously, I don't worry about jesters like yourself. You know he swayed Tannenbaum? how do you know this? what makes it a fact? you think Idzik came in and allowed Rex, a guy many think will be fired this year, to run the draft? Use common sense for once.
If the only way to win a debate is by you twisting words around, why bother? ...pestered, encouraged, swayed...Rex gave it the thumbs up...how's that? "Sanchez is a young player," Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum told reporters following the team's announcement of the extension. "And just like any young player, there's some inconsistencies that have to get better. We've won a lot of football games with Mark as a starting quarterback for the New York Jets. That's really what convinced Rex, Woody [Johnson] and me. It's not a projection. It's not a hope. It's not an incremental leap of faith. It's, 'Here's a three-year body of work.'" And I never said he "ran the draft"...
continuity is how success is attained absent grotesque (kotite like) failure. Rex has been one step short of the SB 2 times. Has 1 losing season, while saddled by the FO withthe two worst OCs in football. Thats not a call for change Doesnt matter, they win 11 this year anyway.
That Tannenbaum was a moron and should've told an owner, who doesn't know much, and the coach, who gets crazy about guys he likes, that he wasn't worth it and the money will hinder the team in following years.
Let's just assume that the general managers have been making the picks. Do they work in a vacuum and just go with their gut or do they take input from their trustworthy head coach about what kind of groceries he wants in the shopping cart? Five consecutive defensive selections in the first round would strongly suggest that instead of seeking the balance that comes from selecting the best available player that our general managers were swayed by the influence of our defensive minded head coach to select defensive players with those picks regardless of whether they were BPA or not. The selections of Wilkerson and possibly Coples would seem to substantiate BPA but the selection of Kyle Wilson would suggest that the Rex (and possibly Westhoff) sought to fix a perceived need at the expense of BPA.
That does not answer my last post. I basically said that Rex was twisting the GMs arms and the result was defense over BAP.
if rex is twisting arms it means he has the power, maybe you can make that argument w/ Tannenbaum but not w/ a new GM.
I still don't buy it but you can make any argument you want. We'll never really know since none of us were in the draft room.
