If this is the sticking point then something will be worked out. Looking at this from Cowher's perspective, he's protecting himself. Mangini had Favre thrown at him halfway through pre-season, and now Woody/Tanny have a hard on to keep BF around another year. If I'm Cowher I'd rather take my chances with a young QB (ala Kordell, Big Ben) then go with a turn-over machine like Favre. A young 1st time coach wouldn't give a damn either way, but a guy that's been around the block like Cowher would not sign up for that. That said, this can be worked out. Re-organize so that Cowher can shop for the groceries but he is still accountable to Woody/Tanny. Cowher's earned the right to choose his own players given his track record.
You mean like mortgaging our QB position for years to come and giving up #2 passer in NFL to division rivals for nothing in return? Or wasting #6 overall draft pick? He did bring in good guys via free agency, but it's not like he got some bargains out there. He paid full price (or Woody did). Of course he will get good guys when Woody is willing to pay. The art is finding great talent for bargain prices or in draft, like Parcells, like Belichik did. Tanny did not do that. He is good at managing cap, and that's all he should be doing.
So Louie the call screener for the Max Kellerman show said that the Jets haven't talked to Cowher and will do so; he got this info from an official from the Jet organization. Clayton may be wrong here.
