    Bad trade

Jonathan Vilma was one of the best draft picks the Jets made in recent history. Anyone who is wildly applauding his trade is missing the point.

Maybe it is time to deal the guy due to injuries. Maybe he doesn't fit into Mangini's treasured "defensive system." (Just wake me up when it works, OK?)

On the other hand, this is one more Jets failure. It's one more player who will probably perform better for a different team than they played for the Jets. One more bust. One more loser...

He also blew out his knee...Not good news when your speed almost compensates for your lack of size.

You'd have preferred to keep him in a system thats doesn't suit him for one more year and let him go for nada?
Its not a bad trade , you're missing the point.

Probably a low 2nd. Think the Saints will have a good next season

I think we got stolen on the Vilma deal, I know he's not a option in Mangini's 3-4 but still I think we could have gotten more from him. But on the other hand we don't know how good he's going to be coming back from his knee injury. So at this point I think I have to agree and like the trade especially with the cap room it brought and signing Jenkins and possibly Faneca!:pats_suck:

This is the third post like this from you in 3 threads saying almost the exact same thing.

With the Jets having such a good start to free agency, I was wondering how long it would take for the trolling to begin.

I don't know how much more you wanted. We got a sure 4th this year no matter what, and a possible 2nd next year. Keep in mind this is a player with a major knee injury and last year Randy Moss was traded for a 4th.

This was an excellent trade and the Jets got great value.

Doing the Math we got Jenkins for Vilma if Vilma resigns

Jenkins cost us 3rd and 5th rounders

    Vilma netted us 4th + next year's 2nd - next year's 4th

    next year's 2nd is about this year's 3rd
    next year's 4th is about this year's 5th

    so net:

    -3rd this year
    -5th this year
    +4th this year
    +3rd this year
    -5th this year
    -------------
+4th for 2 5th round picks which is roughly equivalent

So in essence, we trade a player from a position of depth (ILB) to get a player where we're thin (NT).

Awesome work by our FO. This is exactly the kind of trade that makes sense for everybody.

I agree. Didn't like just a 4th for next year.
Much easier to digest as a 4th round this year, and more than likely upgrading our 4th next year to a 2nd or 3rd rounder.
Hate to lose Vilma, but i think that trade sounds fair. Hope Vilma does great next year, for his sake and for the sake of our 09 draft.

    Vilma Trade Details?

Excuse my ignorance - I didn't see any details posted.

What are we getting? A guaranteed 4th this year and conditional pick next year (Round 4 or earlier)

I've also heard that we are getting a 4th this year. And if Vilma's performance dictates a 2nd or 3rd rounder for us in 2009, then we will forfeit our 4th rounder next year to the Saints.

Can anyone clarify? Have the details been disclosed or is it all conjecture?

    Thanks.
