TRADE BAKER NOW! I must have missed all of his pro bowl appearances. Anybody who has done as little as Baker has and is making as many noises about renegotiating his contract should be moved. Nothing is worse than a clubhouse cancer, and he has the potential to become just that.

We got Bubba Franks for some depth and Blocking Help and we just Drafted a Tight End in the First Round so Getting rid of Baker who may become a problem in the locker room wouldnt be the worst idea but like Tanny said Baker aint going anywhere this season. So i guess we take em at his word.

I believe he said the same thing about Kendall last offseason even while shopping him during the draft.

^^^ What else would they say? we gonna kick his ass out of here by the end of the draft?

I dont think we even tried to shop Baker yet. He does not deserve a new contract. If he holds out for the season, thats fine. He can do that if he can afford it. But apart from that option, he really is'nt getting any raise, especailly after what the Jets will pay Keller. We cant bind a lot of money on TEs alone. Save some cap space and pick up maybe another superstar next in the FA.

I liked Baker until his recent actions. I think he's a good catching TE and can be useful if he is used enough. But he's probably not worth paying more than $1.5M a yr. Thats the avg. salary he is making rite now. So shut your mouth and play football or kiss my A$$...

I think you're naive if you think Baker's name didn't come up in a few phone calls on draft weekend.

I think a lot of it is fueled by agents getting players amped up about their getting screwed..Maybe an agent loses a couple clients and tries to increase his rep by trying renegoiate in the middle of a contract and then use it as his "sell line" to prospective clients under "look what I did for my client". Maybe after Kendall they think Tanny and Mangini will blink...their wrong..Chris Baker has NO leverage..none..Chris will be in camp playing under his old contracr..bet on it!

  8. I think Baker is making a big mistake....and being traded away from the jets, where he at least has SOME merit in the locker room despite being an average player...would be devistating for his career.

I probably would of given him more credit if he actually put it in an article instead of hiding it away in the Jet Stream blog. How many non-Jet fans are actually going to see that? Also, we don't know who this 'insider' is, so it may be that the only reason he put this in his blog at all was because he had enough respect for this particular person.... This hasn't changed my own opinion of Cimini as a writer/journalist at all.

I think you're reaching. Just cause your agent suggest you be an ass or whatever, doesn't mean you have to do it. BTW, I never said agents aren't to blame, I'm just saying you have to look at the players first.

It's likely his name did come up and other teams probably weren't interested or offered next to nothing for him. He'll be a Jet this year and depending on Keller's development, I would make him play a lot of special teams. :)

Considering this seems to be the Chris Baker thread, I think this it'd be appropriate to post this blurb from Sunday's Star Ledger

That says it all, he ranks almost 20th in receptions, which is the production that matters when it comes to contracts- and he gets paid like it... so why is Mr. Baker crying?? Because the new kid may take his catches? I'm losing my respect for him. This is not what the team need.
