personally I think it sucks that someone can't have a conversation without someone else recording it and plastering it all over social media - if he was giving a press conference then fair enough but he was just having a simple direct interaction with a fan - all this sort of thing will do is mean no-one will ever want to talk to anyone without it being scripted, checked, double checked, re-written then saying "no comment"
This wasn’t public. It got made public by whoever posted it but this wasn’t Chris giving a presser or calling up Manish Mehta to plant a ‘Gase better win or he’s out’ leak.
Its an appropriate response at this point isn't it? I also have to believe that he knew when he said it that it was going to "leak". I agree with Falco21, it shows the fans that he is not happy with the situation and is just as aggravated with it as we are. Which is a good sign. Managers often give subordinates breathing room when they are in trouble, but they are already thinking through the potential solutions by the time they get to that point. We can only hope.
Of course it was public. Given the prevalence of cellphones etc., a comment like this to a fan is the functional equivalent of call to Mehta, Cimini, Costello et al. The only difference is the cellphone gets the comment right. A guy like Johnson should be smart enough to know that he shouldn't say anything to any fan that he does not want recorded and splashed in the next day's paper because that's probably exactly what will happen. Does really believe he wanted this comment publicized?
Fascinating dynamic. CJ knows as much about football as your average fan. Noone in the Front Office besides Joe Douglas has any measurable football experience. Just promoted Jets President Hymie Elhai was in business dev and legal. Everyone else is a corporate guy. So CJ knows its going tits up and needs to find a new HC. But the only guy in house he can get actual football advice from was the guy championed by Gase? Who only has a few months as an actual GM himself? Douglas is still learning the layout of the building. He is determining what his scouting staff is going to look like and evaluating draft prospects. Now he needs to find a new HC? What is he saying? Seems to be the only meaningingful voice in the room. He talks today right?
I like that video. Shows Chris is pissed and unhappy with the Jets situation. We have heard him talk before. I think he sincerely wants the Jets to succeed, so this beginning with Gase has been awful for him I am sure. Joe Douglas is well respected around the league, so if he says to dump his buddy Gase, I think Christopher Johnson would listen. Still, it is a terrible situation, no matter what.
CJ has said repeatedly that he would not judge them on wins and losses, but on the amount of progression the team was showing. Well folks, there certainly is no progression anywhere in sight right now. Joe Douglass, regardless of how he got here, IS the NY Jets GM. He reports to CJ, not to Gase. If Gase starts to "fall from grace" Douglass is going to switch into self preservation mode.....and his boss is CJ. Do the math.
Yea, that's what I meant....he has no reason to be loyal to Gase when it isn't in the best interest of neither the team, nor himself.
He and his brother should just sell the effing team to someone who would actually care about building a winning organization. These clowns should be hiring people capable of doing their jobs but instead we're getting idiot head coaches and general managers who would not be able to draft a decent player if their life depended on it. 2016 - Darron Lee (#20 overall) - BUST 2015 - Leonard Williams (#6 overall) - never lived up to expectations, traded for a 3rd and 5th round picks before his rookie contract was over 2014 - Calvin Pryor (#18 overall) - BUST 2013 - Dee Milliner (#9 overall) - always injured, never really played. BUST 2012 - Quinton Coples (#16 overall) - BUST 2011 - Muhammad Wilkerson (#30 overall) - pretty good till he got a huge contract, then simply stopped caring. 2010 - Kyle Wilson (#29 overall) - BUST 2009 - Mark Sanchez (#5 overall) - do I have to say anything at all? 2008 - Vernon Gholston (#6) - defines the word 'BUST' This list alone proves just how inept the Johnsons are at picking people to run their team.
2010 - Kyle Wilson (#29 overall) - BUST Lol, I remember how he would never turn to look for the ball.
2008 also had Dustin Keller & 2013 had Sheldon Richardson. Neither of which were all time greats by any stretch. Besides Adams most recently, we'd have to go back to 2007 to find Revis & 2006 for Mangold as the last first rounders who were selected as a first team all-pros (excluding ST). Wilkerson was 2nd team a couple times. Crazy.
And then think about the second rounders that accompanied those picks. No wonder the on-field product has sucked for so long.
Petro the list you made would be beyond pitiful if you had included those years with the entire draft---How many guys did the actually draft who are not Jets anymore but out of the NFL all together ????? Its just mind numbing Stephen Hill, Hackenburg ugh I cant go on I just cant
I can't imagine going through another season like this I really really can't. Gase lost his scapegoat when he stupidly helped push MacCagnan out the door when he did. Someone has to pay for this.
And finger-wag after getting beaten so badly that he wasn't even in the frame when the WR dropped the ball...
I've gotten to a place where I don't expect anything from the Jets. There's no point in rooting for the team to succeed. It ain't happening. I'll watch games. I'll applaud nice plays. I'll come here to make fun of the team. I'll wear my NY Jets t-shirts & hats with the understanding that I'm in on the joke.
