You make a good counter point. If Shoty used even two TE sets more in the passing game we would have a good reason to keep baker. With our running attack, bringing in a two TE set then going to play action would have been wonderful, but it was not seen ofter enough.

I would not be angry if Baker was brought back at a reduced price, but Keller looks to be developing into a very good young TE and I would love to see him continue to progress.

Not as good as Kendall, for starters.

I hope Baker stays on this team. He's a solid player.

Do you mean Keller? Then I would agree. Quite frankly, I see Keller as being one of the better pass catching TE's in the league. He showed some great things last year. He did wear down by the end of the year, but that can be attributed to the rookie wall.

Come on, I'm sure he's at least as good of a TE as Pete Kendall.

The guy is uninspired, he's not a team player. he does his job poorly. I have never heard of him speaking highly of anyone on the team. Fuck him, Fuck Coles, Fuck any of those players who feel they are bigger then the team. With their hold outs, and public crying, and public bashing of the FO. Peace let him find out how good the jets were to him. He's talented, but the circus stunts he pulled last year's offseason, outweigh his talent. This isn't Witten, or Heap, or an aging Gonzalez were talking about. Its Chris Fucking Baker

I am amazed you guys are hating on him that much...well not that amazed since there is always hate to go around on this forum..but chris baker is a solid TE in my opinion.. I wouldn't say that fiasco last year with his contract was his fault at all but who it to really know. Secondly he is a good blocking TE and has great hands.. he has played solid all around and I would much rather have him on the team than Bubba Franks who i didn't see once last year. Keller is awesome but can't block and doesn't really fit that type of TE anyway. I think we should figure out how to retain him and do it.

I've always liked Baker. He's been pretty dependable as a receiver and a blocker. I really hope we keep him around.

I like him also, but not at that price. I just find it really disheartening that we have to release players who have value instead of trading them and getting something in return. I mean getting rid of Pennington and getting nothing for him really still kills me.

Good move by the FO to let him test the market. If somebody else is willing to pay big bucks for him, he'll move on, if not hell come back to the Jets and at least be satisfied in knowing he's not getting cheated. If I remember, he's a local kid, I wanna say he grew up in Queens, so I imagine that unless somebody else is offering him a substantial raise, he'd probably like to stay with the Jets.

    You've nailed it.

The Bentley idea was not exactly a good career move.

If Baker is a decent pass-catcher and a good blocker, that ain't enough to command a 9mill roster bonus, especially when we need all the cap room we can get.

This is a smart move by Tannenbaum. Baker thinks he's worth a bunch of money, so let him test the market and then match the price if it's less (which it should be) then what he's making here. If someone wants to overpay for him, then let them, and go find another TE who's a decent pass-catcher and good blocker; it's not like that combination is so rare.

It's not hate. I haven't seen anyone here say they can't wait to get rid of him because they hate the guy. He's simply not worth the price the team would have to pay to retain him, and there's a decent chance that we can bring him back at a lower price once he realizes how low of a price he'll actually command on the market.

Whatever happens, I don't want this to turn into a Lamont Jordan fiasco, whereupon we get nothing if he leaves. If we don't want him, I'd rather trade the guy and at least get SOMETHING rather than cut him.

The problem with Baker is, he's a hard-head, he's apparently not too bright, and he really doesn't give a damn. He demonstrated that with his Bentley idea, which was a pretty stupid move.

Consequently, if a team offers him $1.00 more per year than we want to pay him, he'll take it just to prove his stubborn point.

So, my guess is he's going to wind up somewhere else.

I agree, it'd be ideal to get something for him in return if he leaves, however, the Lamont Jordan incident wasn't quite a "fiasco" because he hasn't done much since, and he's oft injured.

The thing is, this is for cap reasons. I don't know all of the ramifications; if we trade him, do we take a hit and/or still owe him the roster bonus?

The point of all this is that his performance and skillset isn't worth that $9mill.

f you! mr holier than thou

dont let me hear you complain about psls or ticket prices.

at this point although keller has not really showm that he can play a full year at a decent level (he only played about 6 weeks last year at a decent to high level.) and he has not in any way shape or form shown that he can block at all. i have to agree with this cut. i would not have agreed last year but i do this year, too much money at this point for baker. i would like to see him back but not at that price. he is a good receiver and a very good blocker. there are not a ton of guys in the league who can do both.

for those of you with the cyas and the hatred i hope that you live your life in the same fashion as you ask chris baker to. there are lots and lots of scumbags out there talking about how everyone elses greed is fucking things up. meanwhile they refuse to take a look at themselves.
