I agree with what you're saying to a point, but in what universe does Chris Baker deserve more money? He's an average TE getting paid as such. Every player on this team has to work out a deal to get themselves fair market value. This guys deals with the Jets always seem to end up making headlines with negative drama. Why aren't other agents that deal with the Jets following the same trend? Unless of course, you feel that this guy is the only one that can get players fair market value when dealing with the Jets.
i love all the hatred for chris baker now. its like he did something to you guys personally. i hope chris gets his money or a new team for his sake. i hope he does well. i really think he will. but what i really hope for is that many on this board will stop being such jerks about everything.
It's really hard to stand behind someone when he's being a retarded moron. Rather than help our team, Chris "bad advice taker" Baker has gone and done the total opposite, creating unrest and a circus. At a time when the rest of the team is coming together and improving, he is causing nothing but problems. He needs to go fck himself and you need to get a life.
Does no one think he may have a point? He's been he for years and been a good soldier for us. Most feel they don't throw to him enough. Then they spend good $$ on a free agent TE, which has got to (understandably piss him off). Then they trade up to sign another TE?? Why would his displeasure surprise anyone? Generally speaking, I'm not a fan of greedy athletes but with Kendall, Coles and now Baker -- is it just a coincidence that it's happened 3 times in a year? It can't be Tangini's fault -- only the player's?
Chris Baker has been disappointed by his bout by free agency, and now with his last agent as well. On the field he plays the good soldier well, blocking and catching everything he can reach. But compared to other tight ends Baker is slow, and while his good route running makes up for some of it, Baker is also not very quick. He strikes me as more of a sly route runner. As a result, it takes him time to become an available target -- unfortunately time isn't what we have had a whole lot of. I don't know what a different QB (other than Chad or Kellen) could have done with Chris Baker, given the NYJ's shakey offensive situation the last couple of years. But this backdrop certainly doesn't showcase his strengths for a run at a raise, in my opinion. Even so, the FO seems to be making a habit of getting stuck in a conflict with a popular player. Whether it's a trend or another coincidence doesn't matter -- they have to come up with a real response besides a shoulder shrug. Otherwise, the FO can erode the team's momentum. Like it or not, I am afraid Baker's picking the scab of a real risk for the NYJs.
the fact you said in your first line "retarded moron" makes the rest of any point you may have moot. i just cant go with coincidence at this point. hell even just a few months ago things were getting ugly with coles. he got taken care of. i do not in any way shape or form care for a FO that scumbags its players and i am getting concerned that there may just be some of that going on with the jets at this point. hopefully that is not the case but if it is then there will i guarantee be problems in the future.
A Bunch of Morons and Idiots On This Board! I feel like this board's Woody Paige... I got to set you guys straight!!! Last year's DISASTER with Pete Kendall just proved to me (and anyone else who has a brain and watches Jets games) that the current Jets' "braintrust" made a huge mistake in... Well... It was not just in NOT giving Pete Kendall his teeny, tiny little $1 million bonus (and compare that to the ridiculously overpaid contract Alan Faneca just received? Which is the most obvious signal that Woody Johnson thinks our braintrust doesn't know what they are doing?)... To me, the big mistake was in the way Mangini and Tannenbaum decided to embarass the guy by putting him in the rookie barracks during the preseason. This sent a clear message to all players that the current Jets management are a bunch of pussies. Think about it. Why else do you think the team went 4-12 with the same personnel as the year before? The second signal that the team screwed up big time/made a HUGE mistake is that this team just WAY OVERPAID a not-very-important position on the OL. If you don't see that this is harbinger of things to come? Then you must be brand-new to New York Sports. I have been following NY sports since the late 1970s. This is a HUGE RED FLAG that Woody is PISSED OFF at his braintrust, and that if this shit happens again? Mangini and Tannenbaum are TOAST! You think that NFL players on other teams didn't notice that the Jets treat their players who have a contract problem like crap? This was the most shameless part of the whole Pete Kendall deal. Hey--Jets fans? Just in case you didn't notice--it cost our team a lot of victories last year and ruined our season!!! Anyhow, to Kendall's credit, he shut up about the whole deal once he left town. (And coincidentally went to the playoffs with the Redskins--anyone see a pattern here? You think that, just maybe, treating good players like crap is not such a good idea after all?) To me, the problem with this team (The JESTS) is not just that Jets' management wants to underpay you (when you are an NFL player), but also that you want to make you feel like crap. Mangini's decision to relegate Kendall to the rookie dorm just might be his epitaph. And you know what? He might never work as a Head Coach in the NFL again if the Jets tank again. After the whole Spygate thing, it's not like he made a lot of friends in the coaching fraternity by being a snitch. I guess maybe I was one of the only posters on this board who noticed that Chris Baker is one fo the few players who actually MADE GOOD FOOTBALL PLAYS for this team last year??? And that Tangini/Mannenbaum are once again sabotaging their own team by treating a good team playr like a sack of crap? Let me know when you guys who work corporate (or lower) jobs enjoy it when your bosses embarass you in front of the world. Let me know how that affects employee morale. This is the mistake Mangini/Tannenbaum are repeating now, and I cannot belive tey are stupid enough to repeat the same mstake for a mere $1 million after spending money in the free agent markt like drunken sailors. Say what you will about Chris Baker and what he deserves or does not deserve, btu the fatcs are that Green Bay no longer thought that Bubba Franks could be an effective TE, but the Jets might be OVERPAYING him now, and pissing off the only guy who's been an effective TE for the team for the last few years! If Mangini and Tannenbaum can't take care of Chris Baker, one of the best performers on the team last year, after an offseason when they rewarded a bunch of question-marked performers with HUGE contracts? I do not have confidence that they are the team to lead us into the second decade of this new millennium. I know a bunch of other posters on this board love Mangini and the current management, but I just see one more sign after another that thwey suck, and that Woody Johnson, a rich idiot, will fire them if the Jests miss the playoffs this season.
Nah, I think he made some amazing plays. I agree. Others do as well, but that is not the issue. People are pissed because he is voicing a legit concern against our team, which is making everyone instantly hate him. It is a crazy concept, but to some it makes perfect sense. I'm not saying everyone that is disliking CB feels this way, but it seems like most do. I just hope those that are hating on CB, just because of our FO's stance, would be smart enough to not jump off a bridge if they were asked to by our FO.
I think I got your main points: 1) The Jets made a huge mistake not paying additional money to above average LG last season who was in the middle of a contract he just signed 2 years ago. 2) Trading Kendall is the main reason we went 4-12 last season. 3) LG is not a very important position. 4) Redskins made playoffs in part because they signed Kendall. 5) The Jets overpaid 7 time pro-bowl LG this off-season. 6) Jets want to underpay players. 7) The Jets spent money like drunken sailers in FA this offseason. 8) Chris Baker was one of the few players who did well for our abysmul offense last season. 9) Chris Baker, who makes about the same as 3 time pro-bowler Bubba Franks is under paid. 10) The Jets overpaid for 3 time pro-bowler Bubba Franks. Is that correct? I can certainly see why you think we're a "Bunch of Morons and Idiots".
I want my 5 minutes back. I will say this once and will say it again as I know lawyers and several player agents. Not one agent worth his fucking salt will not get something in writing in relation to renegotiating contracts. If a team promises something or wants to, PUT IT IN FUCKING WRITING! Kendall was the player rep last year he should have known better. If he didn't fuck him. I think Baker is a decent player. However do decent players on a fucking 4-12 team deserve pay raises? Hell no!
I just found this to be so funny. So if I say I saw a certain poster have sex with a dog. Then later on two other posters say same certain poster had sex with a dog. That's EVIDENCE??? What's most likely happening is that the tactic worked for Kendall last year, he got traded and a new contract. Now Baker, who switched to that same agent Kendall has, is using the same tactic. I also don't understand what you mean by the Jets 'cleaned up the Coles situation'. They offered to guarantee the last two years of his deal. Doesn't seem like that big a deal. I guess they really lacked confidence when they gave Rhodes and extension too. ???
I can't believe people are still on Baker's side after all of this shit he's pulling. My thoughts: Baker is an average TE, all the other TEs in the NFL who played like he did last year (nothing special) didn't get reworked contracts so why does Baker think he deserves one? Baker broke the #1 rule in football, which is don't talk about your gripes to the media. Look at the shit storm that he's created by his stupid comments, which I don't believe. If the organization was ever thinking about reworking his contract then they're definitely not going to do it now that he's said all this shit and make the organization look bad. Plus I think its stupid that all of these players are crying about the contracts that THEY SIGNED AND AGREED TO. Players need to shut up and fucking stand by the contract that they signed, I can see if a player does something spectacular like has a Randy Moss year then yeah renegotiate the contract, but when you have an average contract, you play average, and you want a reworked contract you're being retarded. What is Baker smoking? Is he so full of himself that he doesn't realize that he's an average TE? Solution: Move Baker from starting TE to third string, then he can shut up about not being paid starter money. Bench him the entire season and then trade him when his contract is up. Baker used to be one of my favorite players on the Jets and now he's my most hated player. Why? Because you don't talk to the press about your gripes. You don't whine and trash talk the organization. There's plenty of players who are unhappy with their contracts or organization, but guess what? They man up, play hard, and wait for their contract to run out like they should.
Decent players who have contributed to this team for the last six years, in many different ways, probably deserves something. Especially when that understanding was placed there in some form by our FO. Writing?? I love how this is an arguement at all. Writing or not, this was obviously instilled in good faith. They have reneged on their verbal agreement, which still makes the scenario bull shit. Just because it was not in writing, doesn't make it right for the FO to treat their players like this. Instead, it only makes a none legal issue, and it allows our FO to continue to be shady towards those players that are obviously not in "their" long term plans for this team. This is a problem because you would like to think you could trust your inexperienced FO from the start, believe in what they are telling you out of the gate, obviously this is not a fact. All this does is scream, HEED CAUTION, players are not going to trust our FO with constant BS like this popping up, which will end up biting them in the ass in the long haul.
http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/football/jets/blog/ 1) Baker wasn't even in the room when the conversation between his former agent and Tannenbaum occurred. What he is saying was second hand info to him. Tannenbaum and Brady are the only ones that know exactly what conversation occurred, if any. 2) Even assuming the exact quote Baker gave is true, that's not any promise to give him more money or redo his contract. First, we have to assume that the FO believes he had a good year. Considering he had the best output of his career you have to figure they would consider it good, but that's not a given. Second, maybe Tannenbaum and CO did in fact revisit the contract and they decided not to change anything. This would be true to their word as per that quote. "Revisiting this" - could have been as simple as Tannenbaum saying to Baker or his agent they aren't changing anything. 3) Whenever making a business deal it is smart to get it in writing regardless of whatever happy feelings you have. Professional sports agents should know this and follow it strictly.
Very good argument, sir. I had not seen those quotes up until this point, but I still feel that the words are a bit misleading. Even though I agree with your theory on those exact words. I still feel the same on the issue but not as strongly. Good points. Call me stupid for not digging in after the exact quotes that were established, maybe I have missed them in this thread up until this point. :/
Heed caution? This is the NFL, contracts are not guaranteed. There is no such thing as a verbal agreement in that type of environment. Nobody and I do mean nobody gets a promise for the future with out getting it in writing except under extenuating circumstances and this is not that! Especially, if you are a player that is an officer in the union and knows the intricacies of negotiating with upper management, to say otherwise is pure and utter poppycock. This long haul is such utter bs. Again this is the NFL, if the Jets have enough room under the cap they will get the players they want without any problem. Every player understands the following: All it takes is one bad season, even for a superstar, and they will get the axe. There is no other league like it. That is why Baker is moaning, that is why Pete Kendall bitched and moaned, L. Coles the same thing...... they are aging players with no guarantees. Every freaking team in the league runs into the same shit. It is the nature of the NFL. Find me an NFL team without player contract problems and I will show you a team without contracts. All the other leagues have guaranteed contracts which is why you hear players arguing length of contract more. The one exception in the NFL is rookies. That is solely because if they are good players the shorter first contract allows them to cash in on free agency faster, as no team in their right minds would cut a young inexpensive player that is up and coming. Again, mediocre players on bad teams do not and should not get raises. You simply do not run a business like that. Lastly, I feel that Pete Kendall or L. Coles are hardly the poster boys I would use for evidence of the FO lying. Their track record about such things is beyond suck. Edit: The 2 players I would use to rebut this long term BS are Faneca and Jenkins. Both of those players had problems with their prior teams management. Funny how I do not hear any pissing and moaning from them. One willingly came to the Jets despite the lying FO................... Gee I wonder why?
