The only existing Chris Baker controversy in my mind is why the hell he is not already on a bus out of NY. :breakdance: Heheh... I love the Ari Gold idea. Beautiful!
From The Newsday Blog "Baker said his then-agent Cliff Brady ? whom Baker fired earlier this year ? had a conversation with Tannenbaum at the end of last year?s training camp. ?What Mike said was ?go out and have a good year and we?ll revisit this after the year.' That was our exact conversation,? Baker said of how Brady relayed his conversation with Tannenbaum to Baker. " Baker wasn't even at the supposed conversation with Tannenbaum. He says it was told to him by his agent.
I understand the coincidence of all three claiming the same argument, I really do. It smacks of "Where there's smoke there's fire." It started with Coles and was a case where Coles said he was promised more than what the team offered when it came time to renegotiate. I do remember distinctly that Coles' argument was not that he was not promised to be "taken care of" and that renegotiation would take place, it was that Coles' interpretation of just how much (of an extension or how much more money) was at stake. We wanted to give him another year, or something like that, and he wanted three more, or whatever. He whined and whined until we gave in. So that thing... the Coles thing... was somewhat different than what we had with Kendall's bitching and what we have now, which is that both players say they were "promised" something and now the Jets are "liars." This is the Pete Kendall extension of the Coles thing and Pete took it to a whole other level, reporting front and center to the media after every swinging TC. I was there and saw it for myself. And believe me, he was persona non grata with the other players on the practice field, who were avoiding this f*cking clown like the Bubonic Plague. But with Kendall's agent's encouragement (and Baker has the same agent), Kendall pushed it to the limit with the media Bull-Shiite. Now Baker thinks he can do the same thing. The thing that makes absolutely no sense about this "Where there's smoke there's fire" theory is precisely that Tannenbaum has already gone through the Coles and Kendall situation and would be extremely careful to avoid such a situation now. For Baker to expect us to believe that Tannenbaum would loosely "promise" him a new, better contract after already having gone through all the Kendall nonsense just doesn't make sense. Baker read WAY MORE into anything or any "conversation" that may or may not have taken place and now he's taking it nuclear like Kendall did and expects to get away with it like Kendall did. Pin a note to his f*cking door this afternoon.
wow...interesting. If what you say is true...then yes, give Baker his pink slip outright....there's no need to put up with shit like that, on any level really. If Baker had any intellectual sustance whatsoever, he'd "punt" his agent to the curb...before his agent ruins his football career.
An average TE on one of the worst Offensive teams in football, a team that went 4 & 12 that couldn't run the ball behind the TE and couldn't exploit mismatches with the TE because he is slow as runny dog shit on a 2% grade. Good hands but can't block or get open doesn't get you a big payday on a 4 & 12 team. Now if Baker could be the starting TE on a 12 win team pay the man.
Yeah, he said that to Ralph Kiner By the way, here's Tannenbaum's retort http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/football/jets/blog/
I'm not sure but Durocher said. "How you play the game is for college ball. When you're playing for money, winning is the only thing that matters."
I was thinking somethign a little more violent: Chris Baker, You've been cut. Here's a box and timer. I'll be here with a gun once this timer reaches zero. If you, and the box with the personal contents of your locker are still standing here when when I show up, you won't be by the time I leave. -Sincerely, E. Mangini Or, he could have gone a little simpler: Baker, Here's the raise you asked for and a comprehensive evaluation of your worth to this team: <under this sentence is a $5 bill and a pink slip>. -The fucking coach
That's actually a great point, it shows the Jets FO are learning. They didn't make the same mistake twice.
in response to the first one mangini adds: this timer is set at 5 seconds... MAYBE WE CAN FINALLY SEE SOME GODDAMN SEPERATION
