U dont gotta be in the Nfl to realize this was dumbass move ,Ive tried to support the other picks but this is just plain dumb.
Honestly, why is it that so many people give more credit to mock drafts, wherein sports writers and other idiots try and project where NFL personnel people will pick players, than they give to the actual draft itself, wherein the teams pick the players. Your basically saying that a professional journalist is a better scout than a professional scout. This player fills a need, we dont have anybody on board who fits the stereotypical run stuffing MLB mold. This guy is a role player with a high level of intensity and character. Start getting used to having this type of player around, because its the kind of player that Mangini is going to build his defense out of.
yeah...but the problem with drafting Bellichick type players is that BELLICHICK DOESN'T COACH THE JETS!!!
i'm a little sick and tired of these damn comparisons...when will it stop...PLEASE...anyway, gr8 point bro...
Exactly, finally where does it say if your a bellicheck guy youlll be a great coach. He's not Bill get it though your head.
That has nothing to do with it. He will be running a system similar to Belichick's. That's wear it comes from.
They did stand out but Schlegel started all 12 games as a senior in 2005 and finished second on the team with 82 tackles! Now I don't know who was #1 but even if it was Hawk or Carpenter he still got more tackles then one of them. I'm not saying that he's even close to them but obviously he knows how to tackle and bring down the ball carrier!
Ok but picking a guy rounds after he is supposed to be drafted cant be justified with the quote "he's a Bilcheck guy" im tired of hearing his name used that way.
The case for Schlegel. If he beat out either of those guys in tackles I'll give him a shot. However, Could we seriously not got him at 97 or 103?
Schlegel is a horrible pick, theres so many other people we couldve picked up at that point. Schlegel essentially seems to be the same player Matt Chatham is. this guy was ranked as a 7th round to undrafted player. seems we have a knack for taking nobody's from that yrs best LB core.(mcclover - dj williams- vilma) (shclegel- carpenter- hawk) at least mcclover came in the 7th i dont know, to draft someone in RD 3 whos already labeled as a 2 down LB makes very little sense. i mean yeah ok hes ILB for 3-4 "mangini guy" yada yada yada. that really is a horrible excuse for passing up the people we did at this spot.ok hes good in between tackles but looks like hes totally inept otherwise. we couldve brought in someone else to fill this role. i just dont see the logic in taking him over a WR/RB at this point.
I said this in the other thread, but I'll say it here too. This is exactly like when we drafted Pouha last year. All the mock drafts had him going much later and everyone was like "who?" Pouha didn't end up doing anything, and I don't expect this guy to either.
We took Vilma that year too, so I don't understand your rationing there. McClover's been great on ST too.
Maybe we could've but I feel that the FO doesn't care where everyone else projects these players. They've got there own rankings and are filling needed areas. We needed someone in the middle to stop teams from running up the middle on us! I personally don't care where Kiper or anyone else thinks he should've gone. IMO the FO gets a pass on this draft and if these type of players don't pan out and they pull the same shit next year then I'll be pissed off, but as of now I'm gonna pull for all these guys and hope they work out.
I have no problem with the player, it's the value. Who knows, maybe Zona had their eye on him at #72, but I just don't think he's a first day guy. Maybe late in the fourth, but no earlier. Just my opinion.
that's not a bad attitude, but the FO should have at least SOME sense of where guys are generally valued. Hell, if you think he's so much better than everyone else, take him a round early, but not two or three. But like you said, we'll ahve to wait and see how they do before we can judge their abilities.
