For the record, BB is not alone in the "great coach but he was a dick" category. Lombardi himself was well known as an arrogant, A-hole by his peers. There are many such cases.
FRom the future: Its the 4th quarter of the Pats/Jets game. The score is 45 - 3 in favor of the Pats. On a 4th and 2 at the Jets 35 the Pats decide to go for it. Brady drops back to pass, and Harris slips through on a blitz and blind sides him. Wait....WHATS THIS.....Brady is favoring his right shoulder! Looks like he might have torn his rotator cuff......He will miss the rest of the year and post season. Angry NE fans demand to know why BB left Brady in the game with such a big lead. etc
I wonder.......Brady has been on the injury list every week for over 4 years running.....you think BB would take him off then?
"Washington's David Macklin on the sideline, while surrounded by towel-hoisting helpers, relieved himself into a Gatorade cup as fans gawked." thanks for that
Joe Gibbs teams have run up some most lobsided wins in the modern era. Joe Gibbs had no problem with it. If the Redskins want the Pats to call off the dogs (the last drive Brady was in started with half the 3rd quarter remaining), they should pull their starting D out of the game. London Fletcher is a crybaby and a whiner. He claims he's never seen a team run it up like that. Bullshit! When he was with the Bills they kept Bledsoe and the first string in on opening day to score with 2 minutes left when they were already up on the Pats 24-0. Then the Bills put their starting D back in against the pats back-ups to make sure they got the shutout. The only difference is the pats didn't cry and whine about it after the game! They pounded the Bills 31-0 on the last weekend of the season. That's how you handle it. Losers cry and winners store it away and do something on the field about it.
First off, Buddy Ryan made Matt Mosely of espn's list of coaches known for running up the score. It is on espn.com this morning. Tony Dungy is also a coach who will throw the ball late in blowouts. Asked for his take on how Belichick handled his offense Sunday, Colts coach Tony Dungy said, "Every week is a little different, and sometimes you have different things you want to accomplish. I know when we've gotten Jim Sorgi in at times, you want to let him get a chance to do some things and throw with the first group. And we've thrown a lot of balls late in games when we've had big leads. This is Tony Dungy's quote today in the Boston Globe notes And this nugget about Dungy's classy coaching staff. We expect to hear more and more about taking out Brady as the weeks go by -- and we think that the team with the most to gain via his absence needs to be monitored closely for low hits this weekend, especially since Colts defensive line coach John Teerlinck has a reputation in league circles for teaching his pupils to aim for the ACL. This is from ProFootball.com
Don Shula ignored his family and dumped his wife when she had cancer. Jimmy Johnson went home after he got the Cowboys job and told his wife he didn't have time for her anymore. Red Auerbach put the heat on in the visiting teams lockerroom in June at the Garden during the playoffs. Bill Walsh scripted his first twenty plays and the microphones always went dead for the first quarter every time the Giants played a playoff game there. Bill Parcells screwed the Giants by courting the Bucs while still coach, and screwed the Pats by courting the Jets while preparing for a superbowl Being a great coach has absolutely no bearing on what type of person you are. Most great anything's are egomaniacal and selfish
Like I said in the other message board. Seems kind of easy for these guys to run up the score and for other teams not to score. SPYGOAT??
