Collins and Warner deserve it more. I think going from non starter to productive starter is the key to winning CPOY.

Pennington is the main reason why we're contending for the division... I think the week 17 game will be huge for both teams... I can't wait for that game, however I can only hope that Miami wins their other three games to even get a shot at winning the division. I could see Pennington or Williams winning Comeback Player of the Year, but I wouldn't put money on it.

Ricky would get my vote. The dude's having his best season in 5 years.

To win that twice in the NFL would be amazing. The only time I've seen it done twice was Bernard King in the NBA, once with the Knicks and later with the Bullets.

Don't you think Warner has (just a little more talent at WO) than Chad Pennington does at the moment??

Point being that Chad wasn't hurt last year, he just flat out sucked and got benched. I don't think they offer Comeback Player Awards to people who sucked. I would nominate Delhomme. He's been struggling the last few but they're still tied for first in their Division. If I'm wrong as to what the Award stands for, then Chad could get it. But I would think a stronger nominee would have to be Kerry Collins.

Chad was hurt last year, which as it came out later in the year was having an affect on his overall play. But to say Chad sucked last year is a bit unfair to leave him out there without his abysmal offensive line that did almost nothing for him or the rookie last year. Chad didn't suck last year, he was just on a team that sucked. Evidenced by his return to form this year.

Right, but he wasn't inactive. Players play thru injuries all the time. Two years ago he was actually inactive and kept off the field and the following year, he came back and won it, which he rightfully deserved. However, last year he didn't start after the 8th game or so, but still came in for a game or two when Clemens got hurt (@ NE sticks out in my mind). I was being unfair with my comment, but the point was and still is that he wasn't officially declared injured last year, therefore, he cannot be a Comeback Player this year.

I don't think it matters what you're coming back from, an injury is not the only qualification. Tommy Maddux won it, I don't think he was ever injured, he was so bad he was out of the league for a few years. Chad played hurt on a bad team and got replaced when the season was down the drain. If he was the reason the team was bad it would have improved when Clemens came in but it didn't, the offense didn't, at least.

Like I said, if that is the case, then I think Collins should get it. He's led an 11-1 team who is also the top seed in the entire AFC and are first in their Division.

Not trying to turn this into a Chad thing again, but if Chad had the same record this season, I'd be the 1st in line saying how Chad deserves this Award no questions asked.

You can make a case for either guy. I'm not sure what they look at, the team overall, what the guy came back from, how they did. I think there are a lot of factors.

Chad is kind of like the Brett Saberhagen of football--the old Royals and Mets pitcher. For years that guy was great in even years and awful or injured in odd years, or vise-versa.

I think they leave the qualifying factors to be kinda loose on this type of award. That being said I think there are a number of other players who are as qualified, if not more so, to receive it this year over Chad, but I wouldn't be surprised to see his name out there in the running again.

I wouldn't be surprised if his name came up. I'd be shocked if he got it, but not surprised especially with how well he's keeping the Dolphins in the playoff hunt.

The funny thing is, I've been thinking this way of the team as a whole, not just with Chad. I hope we're back in the Playoff picture next season with a much more confident Favre behind center. (Keeping fingers crossed)

Yeah, I think the team's fortunes have gone along with Chad's since he took over in 2002. That's really the biggest knock someone can fairly make against his time with the Jets. Hopefully we can go forward without that scenario anymore.

I was going to respond to the topic but this makes me stop and say, "are you nuts"?

Back on topic, if the phins get into the playoffs then its possible one of their several candidates could win it. Especially if they play big down the stretch. If not then it should go to kerry collins.

Nuts why? Because the team has been solid every other year? Or because I would like Favre back for another year? The scenario isn't so far fetched as you may think. We picked up his 2-year contract. It's up to him whether he wants to return or not. I wouldn't think it crazy for Mangini to want him back. You're acting like we're 5-7 this year w/ him behind center. But you're right, let's stick to the topic here. I don't think Miami getting into the Playoffs alone would constitute for Chad to get Comeback player Award. A long run would make it a strong case, and then, yes, possibly even get him the Award.

new idea... If he plays even decently in the next few weeks and playoffs... caddilac Williams. That was a career threatening injury and he's back, fits in with the injury, off field medical problem history in past winners

Actually, now that I think about it, if the Fish get to the Playoffs, and I had to nominate anybody from the Dolphins, it would have to be Ronnie Brown. After last year's injury and uncertainty coming into this year, he's overcome a lot more adversity. With a new head coach, the return of "Sticky" Ricky, rumored trade talks, and questions regarding his speed after rehab, I'd say this guy would be the first in line for a nomination out of Miami.
