I agree with this. Ramsey has not shown anything important QB-wise. The only really good thing he did was he had a very good block on the reverse that sprung our Randal El-like player.
I love the way Ramsey has become the #1 whipping boy amongst Jets fans.. You are all right, he hasn't done anything to inspire confidence but answer me this.. Which Jets QB has???
I think Brooks has looked the best. There, I said it. He hasn't even gotten a chance to play with the first teamers. Now, is that saying much? Nope. He hasn't been impressive, but he's looked the best. I would've given the award to Clemens up until last weekend when I saw his performance against the Giants, he didn't look good at all.
Pennington named Jets' starter; Martin on PUP list http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2564968 Pennington is No. 1 QB; Martin to start on sidelines Associated Press HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Jets quarterback Chad Pennington won the starting job Tuesday, but he will be missing a key member of the offense when the regular season starts. Running back Curtis Martin will start the year on the physically-unable-to-perform list with a lingering knee injury after missing all of training camp. Coach Eric Mangini made both announcements, which seemed to be foregone conclusions. "That consistency I've been looking for has been there, his presence, his ability to move the team his leadership, all those things I've been looking for, he's done an outstanding job and it's clear to me he should be the starter and he will be." Coach Eric Mangini on QB Chad Pennington Pennington, coming off two major shoulder injuries, was in a four-man competition to regain the job that was his before he got hurt. The move comes over 10 months after he underwent his latest operation on his right rotator cuff, and a triumph for the hardworking Pennington, whom many thought might never start again. He took control early in camp, outshining Patrick Ramsey, Kellen Clemens and Brooks Bollinger. Pennington started both preseason games he played in after missing one to go home to Tennessee to be with his ailing father. Ramsey, Clemens and Bollinger are now competing for the backup job. Pennington won't play in the preseason finale against Philadelphia on Friday night, but will be under center Sept. 10 against Tennessee. "It's become really clear to me he's distinguished himself in the way I was looking for," Mangini said. "He's made great progress in the preseason, especially over the last couple weeks. "That consistency I've been looking for has been there, his presence, his ability to move the team his leadership, all those things I've been looking for, he's done an outstanding job and it's clear to me he should be the starter and he will be." Martin underwent surgery in December but has been slow to recover. He was placed on the PUP list before training camp started so he could continue to rehab, but Mangini said there hasn't been enough progress for him to start practicing. The 33-year-old Martin, No. 4 on the NFL's all-time rushing list, will be eligible to return in Week 6 at the earliest. "He's really worked as hard as you can possibly work and we've worked as hard as we possibly can work to hopefully get him ready for opening day," Mangini said. "It's just became clear that's not an option. You have now this window for him to keep working and for us to keep working together to achieve our objective and get him back on the field as quickly as possible." Knowing Martin wouldn't be ready, the Jets traded for San Francisco running back Kevan Barlow last week. Barlow, Derrick Blaylock and Cedric Houston are expected to shoulder the load of the running game. Mangini also said Trey Teague was taken off the PUP list and added to the active roster. Teague hurt his ankle during offseason workouts in the spring. Copyright 2006 by The Associated Press
. McNAir may have not passed for one, but I saw him make a beautiful 10 yard TD run in a game. I think it was the first series of the first game.
C'mon, you know Chaddy can juke and cut with the best of 'em. He's good for at least 6 or 7 rush TD's this season...
The starter?! That was a given. The biggest question is who backs up Glass Joe. Vegas actually has a line on how many games Pennington will last this season with the over/under, 5. Clemens should be coddled and nurtured and protected, just in case he really is the future of the franchise. And the biggest injury risk he should face is whether he gets splinters from the bench or the clipboard. Patrick Ramsey should already by playing in Canada at this point. Therefore, the bigger announcement I anticipate from Mangini is that Brooks Bollinger is #2. We saw what Brooks could do last year with a coach handcuffing him, behind an o-line as porous as Norv Turner's face, a 3rd string rb to hand the ball off to, and a receiver corps as sticky-fingered as Mrs. Butterworth. To be precise...not much. When your own head coach sends you swimming up the waterfall, you can only hold your breath and close your eyes. And I know he's a wee man, but it's the size of the fight in the dog that matters most. I have no faith in Chad staying healthy. I hope he proves me wrong, but I honestly think Pedro Martinez will be playing deeper into the fall than Chad Pennington. The biggest roster spot that's open right now, is the #2 QB. If money makes the world go round, than Ramsey's our man and the next time I care about football should come around April '07. If it's Clemens, then I'd still watch just to see if there's any signs of hope. But if it was Bollinger (WHICH I'M NOT DELUDING MYSELF OVER...I KNOW IT WON'T BE), I would actually look forward to some exciting, unpredictable football. Anyone that small who's not afraid of running into NFL defenses has balls. As the other Mr. Montana says...the only thing that matters is balls. (OK...he says the only thing that gives orders is balls, but you get the campaigning-for-a-midget truth).
So said the ESPN article: "Pennington won't play in the preseason finale against Philadelphia on Friday night, but will be under center Sept. 10 against Tennessee."
http://newyorkjets.com/news/articles/show_article?short_name=news&article_id=865 Still think its bull shit Dino?
young guys view I'm just glad that Mangini pulled the trigger on this before final preseason game....this is how it was intended. Do nothing till the time is right....1. Chad obviously is gonna be this year cannonfodder(I'll take 5 games line in Vegas...though thats just because I fear our "O" will occasionally let us down AND Chad scrambles like a brick) 2. Curtis wants to play and this is best route back....we all know the guy would eat glass to run again IF he can help. and as regards not playing Chad....I think the idea is to actually be able to START the annointed guy...good or bad....I doubt that the HC of the NYJ's(irony there) would be silly enough to risk our Chad.
Based on Chad being injury prone and the Jets being QB rich in numbers and not necessarily quality, I think it is a good idea to sit Chad on Friday.
I think its a bad idea as well.....he's only played in 2 preseason games coming off his injury. He could use the reps.
If nobody is going to ever play their guys in the final pre season games anymore, maybe the NFL ought to look into doing away with them. Or at least not including full price tickets for them with the season package. But that will never happen. Anyway, good for Chad. he's the best QB we have, let's try to keep him going into October this year.
