That would explain his high percentage of downfield throws as well. Andsorry you don't like th eQB rating stuff. I mean, who wants facts to get in the way of their argument, right? If Pennington can't play anymore, it's due to unfortunate injury, not a lack of skill.
Do we know how much he will cost us next year to cut him(2007)? Do we not think that we should be a little better next year(2007)? Yes, you all love Chad but do you honestly think that A) he will lead us to the PO's THIS year? B) will he be our FUTURE qb? No. NO. NO. This is the perfect year to deal with Chad's DEAD MONEY. Better than next year when, hopefully we can field a team we all think can get to the PO's and maybe make a run. He NEEDS to go NOW.
I agree, one that is forever burned in my memory is ROB JOHNSON...Geez you would have thought he was the second coming of JOHNNY UNITAS with all the hype he received..
Holy Cr*p, thanks for that. Now I'll have to go into Mr. Polluted playing his best ball...nevermind. Why don't they just have a seperate crack and crank category in the HOF? That would at least make it fair to those who play and stay clean.
Keeping Pennington is the BEST possible thing this FO could do right now.... and I am one of the people that think Chad is pretty much done with two shoulder surgeries. Renegotiating his contract will give us the cap space we need to sign our rookies and an FA or two. If he gets cut, forget about any FA's at least until Abraham gets traded. The thread starter in this doesn't seem to understand much about the team's situation..... to put it kindly.
That's like saying Trent Dilfer is a better QB than Dan Marino because he won a Super Bowl. You are more knowledgeable than that, or you are related to Carter. Carter went 2-1 in 2004. He played one good half of football against the Ravens in his first start. He choked at the end of that game along with the CS. Then with him at the helm, the Jet offense went absolutely stagnant against two of the worst teams in the league - Cleveland and Arizona. Yes the Jets won, but scored 23 points in those two games, and 7 came on a great play by McCareins to score a TD and 7 more on one long pass to Moss. Other than those two scores, Carter was HORRIBLE. He was sacked 5-6 times a game and couldn't move the team. Then Pennington came back and , bad arm and all, moved the team and put up more than 20 points a game the rest of the season. Here's the numbers that matter: Since 2002, the Jets are 21-16 with Pennington as a starter and 2-2 in the playoffs and 12-21 with other QBs with no playoff games. This is with the same team. There is no better way to compare what he has meant to the team. Want the breakdown 2002 Testaverde 1-3 Pennington 8-4 2003 Testaverde 2-5 Pennington 4-5 2004 Carter 2-1 Pennington 8-5 2005 Pennington 1-2 Others 3-10 Pennington's rating is 92 Other Jet QB's over the same period have a rating in the low 70's. It's not how hard he throws, but whether he wins. He wins. Isn't that the bottom line? Let's pay him $2-3 million and see if he can come back. If he does, great. If he doesn't, then the Jets need a QB. But people can't be serious and think that Kitna or Shaub or Collins or Volek or Ramsey are going to be better than Pennington has been.
Great post. The guy said Quincy had a better pct than Chad last season. he played THREE GAMES AND WON 2
People never learn it seems. this is exactly why QB's get too much credit for wins, and too much blame for losses.
Just look at Tom Brady and Mike Vick, two great examples except they dont receive blame for the losses
If Chad was a Mark Rypien kind of one-hit wonder, no one would have a thing to bitch about here for another 20-30 years. We'd still be riding the high. :deadskins:
Why do people still like Chad? What is wrong with you to think he is a good QB? I don't get it and I guess I never will. One good season should not earn you 64 million dollars. And one good season should not convince people to think you're an amazing athlete. I just can't believe anyone can think we could do anything with such a waste of time and money.
In 04 against playoff teams Pennington had 3 good games 2 against SD 1 against Seattle, 1 fair game (that's being generous) in a loss against St. Louis and 4 bad games against NE and Pitt twice each. Pennington is a smart guy and usually does well against mediocre teams. When he is matched up against better teams his smarts are over shadowed by his lack of talent. While you talk about Carter not playing well he was also playing in a system designed for Pennington and still won at the same % that Pennington did on the Jets and should have won all 3 games. Pennington against an awful 04 Miami team put up a 58.3 QB rating. Go back to 03 Pennington put up a 158 QB rating against IND a 128 against Oakland, a 101 against TN and 111 against Miami. He also put up 60 against Philadelphia, 53 against Buffalo and a 31 against NE. Now I agree the NFL is all about parity and mediocrity and against the mediocre Pennington has been wonderful. Against good defenses he is simply over matched and doesn't have the goods. After two shoulder surgeries it?s hard to think that his play which has only gone down since the Oakland playoff game will suddenly take a turn for the better. If we can get Pennington signed for under 2 million and it helps our cap, sure we should do it. He isn't worth the vet minimum but why not if it helps us get another QB in camp. We still need to have 3 other QB?s on the roster until he proves he is medically able to play and than he should have to compete for the No. 2. You can?t plan on him being the starter ever again until he proves it in training camp and limited play during the season.
Chad was not worth $1.22 million per game guys. With every sack, all of us will be holding our breath and praying the glass shoulder hasn't broken again. Keeping Pennington at a reduced rate is a good move financially true. However, to think he's coming back better than before without a bionic implant in his shoulder is fantasy. Question? Just how long do we wait for Chad to "come back" before we draft another "franchise QB"? '07, '08?
