There is a difference between "not having a strong arm" and "floating 10-yard outs." Pennington is going to get a receiver on this team seriously injured; he almost did with Coles on the Christmas MNF game with Miami.

WHere is the proof that the OC is gameplanning around Chads limitations? I might have believed that with Herm as HC but don't you think a new HC and new OC are going to play the QB that gives them the best chance to run the playbook the way they want it run?

Winning percentages for a Qb is a loser argument?? right who wants a QB that wins whenever he is healthy?? you were kidding with that one, weren't you??

Chads limitations HAVE kept the team from beating contending teams?? another false claim.. How bout not having a team good enough to beat those contending teams has kept them from beating those contending teams. Or a HC with no balls and a kicker that couldn't make one of two FGs in the biggest game of his life sure didn't help either..

how do you explain Vinny T destroying Chrebets career or Kenny O destroying Toons career, they sure had strong arms??

Proof? You can't handle the proof. The amount of timing routes Chad threw in the early part of the season, when his passing game was working (and how the sideline routes disappeared once opposing D's started jumping on those timing routes) is something you might want to pay attention to If you don't understand that, then this is a wasted argument. The same can be said for most of the timing routes thrown over 15 yards in 2006. Those types of passes are usually used sparingly designed for tight coverage to fake out the corners, but were used much more often and repetitively in common circumstances. Many times with the same play over and over again. I'm sure you'll dismiss this point and stick your head back into the sand, but it's all the proof a reasonable person should need.

You use game stats to try to deflect points from the argument, and that's kind of what I meant about a loser's argument. Which you are making. People point to the mechanics of a player and you point to an overall team stat. Michael Vick was 'winning' games, too. Until teams got used to him and had a defense prepared for him. But when it counted deep in the playoffs, or against well-prepared teams, he couldn't do enough to win the game when it counted. Chad did well in the Pitt game as far as I'm concerned, his advantages as a quarterback actually help him overcome a quality which is usually a career-killer for any pro QB... but only well enough to be a 'winning' QB, and only with a very stout supporting cast and a capable coaching staff. Certainly good enough to be among the league's 'above average', not even close to being among the league's 'elite'. Chad may someday make an amazing head coach, I certainly think he has what it takes to manage personnel and the approach to the game at the pro level.

Yes, Chad's arm has kept us from winning games against contenders. Rewatch the Colts and Bears games of 2006 for excellent examples of situations where a quarterback who can get the ball downfield accurately would have helped us. Listen to that voice in your head that keeps screaming 'Throw the fucking long ball!' in the final 5 minutes of either game.

The time will come, maybe already has come, when an elite defense (which we do not currently possess) cannot carry an above-average QB to a Lombardi Trophy.

The issue with all of them was/is timing and accuracy. The idea that arm strength doesn't play into those two factors is baffling to me.

I can handle the proof, only problem is you haven't given me any proof. I'm gonna stick with the belief that if Chad was limiting the play calling Chad wouldn't be the QB. Obviously Chad has his limitations but right now he is the best option for Schottys O .

Now your second point I find extremely funny. So let me get this straight, he gets no credit for a win and all the blame for the loss. Using the Indy game as an example of Chad keeping the team from beating a contending team is a complete joke. They scored 34 points in that game and got the ball inside the 5 with less than a minute to go. Chad didn't keep them from winning that game, the D did. Chad kept them in that game and gave them a chance to win it. I can't argue the Chicago game, he was pathetic in that game. I do agree with you that he isn't an elite Qb, there are only 3 of those in the entire league.

We don't know what kind of Qb Chad is yet. This is a huge year for his legacy. He was a great Qb in 02, then he was hurt for 3 years and came back an average QB last year. We'll know more about him this year..

Now your last point, I'm not sure what you mean. My point was that Vinny and Kenny O had strong arms yet they destroyed two WRs careers, now Chad has a weak arm and has great accuracy and he might destroy Coles career. Point being that can happen with any Qb and has nothing to do with Chad's arm strength..

What are you trying to say with this post? Because it sounds like you're trying to do one of the biggest cop outs I've ever seen.

It's funny how you went from 'Chad can win us a Super Bowl' to 'Chad has his limitations but right now he is the best option for Schottys O' in just a few posts. I don't want a QB who can 'get the job done'. I want a QB who stomps a team into the ground when they are down. Maybe it's bad tutelage from Hackett (and by extension, Herm), but the fact is that he is not a playmaker. He doesn't make the great throws, receivers are forced to make the great play.

Okay, how's this, if you're going to give Chad credit for winning games, at least cite the situations in those games where he had the impact. In that Colts game, most if not all of his incompletions were on deep and intermediate passes, where we could have used an impact play to spark an offensive charge. All of the scoring drives began with great field position. He did okay getting the ball to the clutch players, Coles really stood out moving the chains in that game working with Chad, but I wouldn't point to the scoreboard and say Chad was the reason we were in that game.

He has a number of great strengths (picks up offenses quickly, syncs up with receivers well when they are within plays he can complete, his work ethic is astounding, great defensive reads), but his main weaknesses limit many of his own strengths. What the hell good is it to be able to read defenses and think quickly if half of your receivers are out of your range of accuracy by the third step of the drop?

How the hell can we not know what kind of QB Chad is at this point??? Are you fucking kidding me??? He was drafted IN THE YEAR 2000!!! I know what kind of QB Chad is and so does everybody else that can view the subject objectively.

As far as the last point, you either don't know what I mean or you refuse to admit that the concept makes sense to you because it hurts your argument. Both a QB with a strong arm and a QB with a weak arm can both throw without accuracy, exposing a wideout to unnecessary injury, but apparently you just don't get it. Chad's accuracy and timing are affected by the speed he throws his passes. Hence, Chad can be inaccurate on certain routes. Hence, Chad's high-fallutin' accuracy is more of a myth than people who will unconditionally support Chad seem able to admit.

See thats the problem we are having with this conversation, you think anyone who speaks up on behalf of Chad thinks he is a great Qb. Nowhere have I ever said I think he is a great Qb. I am fully aware of Chads limitations as a Qb but yes right now he is the best and only option. It is a fact that since 02 we have won with him and lost without him. I don't know if he can take us to a SB just as much as I don't know if he can't. Common sense tells me if the team is good enough of course he can take us to a SB. Peyton Manning couldn't even take his team to a Sb until his D was good enough & he might be the best Qb that ever played.

No I don't think we know how good or bad Chad is yet. It doesn't matter when he was drafted. In 02 he was great, one of the best years a Jets Qb has ever had. Then he was injured for 3 straight years practically and came back last year an average QB. Coming off his first injury free offseason since 02 we will see how good or bad he is this year, this is his last chance to prove that 02 wasn't a fluke.
