As I said, I could find nothing about a fine, also nothing about 400 pounds. I'm quite reluctant to accuse anyone of lying, especially about something so inconsequential but people do get things stuck in their minds, often from listening to chatter from places like this where some have a problem separating fact from fiction and some don't care at all, they have their minds made up. My eye test was only part of the input I used, there were also the videos and commentary that he was in great shape; again none of this matters much unless one is determined to firmly establish an inalterable opinion. And the thing is, I question statements I see here to keep from forming or solidifying preconceived notions, trying to keep an open mind at all times.
You do realize the Tweet you posted was from the same day he had the surgery, right? You don't really believe that complications all show up that quickly, do you? And nope, your article does not use the term "complications from surgery" but it does use the word "issues." Take it for what it's worth. If you're really interested in why Becton never got back on the field, instead of just quibbling, just show the quote where any competent individual with knowledge of the situation claimed it was because he was too fat. That's what I have a problem with people claiming and so far no one has provided anything but speculation even though they have broadcast it as fact. Should the Jets get rid of the guy because of the scenario that he sabotaged his well being and career at the dinner table? I'm not ready for that - are you?
I think you all are overreacting to the Becton injury. He will most likely come back strong and better than his rookie year. He started his first season without a training camp due to covid. No one ever saw the guy in camp until this year - and so he's probably been out of shape from day one. He's a young, enormously big guy who needs to finally get in NFL-caliber football shape. That will happen, it's his job and he'll figure it out. Nothing new for big lineman. Tristan Wirfs is and probably will be better than Becton - and JD messed this one up.
Heres where I have a problem. You’re calling him “Becton”. Do you have any proof whatever that’s his actual last name? Sorry I’m just not willing to let that slide. Birth certificate? Drivers license? A lot of people report a lot of things, that doesn’t make it true. What’s your source?
He literally provided a quote saying just that, from our own GM, in the post you replied to. Next you're going to quibble over the difference between the words "big" and "fat" when that's irrelevant because our point is that he's too heavy, not that his bodyfat is too high.
There's a reason Saleh made it clear that Mekhi has to win his job back well before the end of the season. Whether it's attitude, effort or weight... only one of those things takes time to fix.
This is what we'd all like to happen but why should we think this is what's most likely to happen? He's a guy who's been perpetually injured and out of shape despite the team making it very clear multiple times that he needs to get in better shape. Why should we think the lightbulb has finally gone off? Becton got in trouble for his weight at the end of his rookie season and showed up to the very next training camp out of shape. The pattern he's shown is that of a guy who's been unable to get it right, why should we think this pattern is likely to reverse when it hasn't already?
Its 2022.. This is the preferred method used by younger people to convey their opinions, thoughts, etc. Especially young people. His tweets are there for all to see unless he's taken them down by now. There's an idea though. Maybe we should start a collection thread of all the stupid tweets by Jet players.
Dude... its the offseason. Its the 10th consecutive off season where we have nothing to do but watch other teams play for the VLT. So we're all bored to death.. Trust me.. Its gonna get worse before the draft and definetly before TC... Its a TGG tradition dammit!!
I don’t disagree since there seems to be a bunch of flags associated with the player in question, but the sports world is full of thin skinned athletes that argue with trolls on social media and post stupid shit. That includes both good and bad players. The shitty part is that you rarely see big burly offensive lineman engage in shit like that.
Apparently you do not know the meaning of the word "literally." Whatever is in that article is not at all a confirmation of the claim that Becton's rehab was delayed because he was too fat, or even too big. Douglas said it was not Becton's fault - how could that be if fault is being placed on his weight?
I remember when being consistent was used as a reason to keep Adam Gase around rather than canning him by some here.
