And by the way the Jets still haven't done anything yet except beat a mediocre .500 Texans team!! I'm encouraged by last week, but we have a ong way to go.
I posted this somewhere yesterday, but... The Jets beat the Patriots the last time they met, and it was considered a huge game at the time (first place, I believe, on the line). I'm also pretty sure that was the last "good" week before the NY Implosion last season. Granted, that was without Brady, but you can't go back to '07 because NO team beat the Patriots... and then back in '06 was the bitch-slapping in the mud, no? (Memory is fading these days and I'm too lazy to look it up.) So the teams at least split the games that year. My only point here is that I'm not sure Ryan needed to do this. It's not like NY is riding a 12-game Patriots losing streak like Buffalo was. He's kind of built this game up into a sink-or-swim moment for the entire season, and it's only week two. If the Pats lose, all Belichick has to do is say, "It was a good game, credit the Jets for playing better than we did. But we've got a long way to go and will have to work on some things and make some corrections before we play them again." If the Jets lose, what the hell is Ryan going to say after he's hyped this up so much? And, potentially worse... what if the Jets go out and lay an egg on Sunday and get absolutely smoked? Not trying to pick a fight here, but I see plenty of you aren't all that thrilled with what Ryan has done leading up to the game. Some of the most famous "last words" are... "Well, it couldn't get any worse." 'Cause it always can.
Not true, it's a devastating loss for NE if that happens and the media won't let Belichick get away with one of his usual ridiculous comments. Even though they may have wone they got kicked all over the field by Buffalo and if they lose to the Jets they should be 0-2. On the other hand if the Jets lose, so what? We are supposed to lose but the Jets will at least have drawn attention to themselves which is the whole point of what they are trying to do.
At the end of the day if the Jets kick ass, win a close game or outright lose. It's game 2 and it's not going to decide the season. It's a bigger game for the Jets because it's a team that collapsed down the stretch last year after having a clear path to the playoffs. It's a chance to give them an edge and build on beating a division opponent at home. At the end of the day the talk means nothing particularly the talk coming from guys who haven't backed it up in the past.
I don't know about anybody else, but I'm not looking at this as game to game basis. I think Ryan is trying to get us to be a top defensive team for years to come. In the last few years, when have the Steelers gone undefeated? When have the Ravens gone undefeated? We will lose. Does everyone hear that? WE WILL LOSE AT SOME POINT THIS SEASON PEOPLE. Our D will let us down. Or our O will let us down. It will happen. The overall picture is to try to install a killer, violent attitude to this defense. No one is gonna mark us down as a 'W' anymore. We want everyone in the league to hate playing against the Jets. In order to achieve that, we have to send the message to all the players that this is what we've become. People are hating that we're talking nonsense against the Patriots. What they fail to realize is we've been talking shit since Ryan got here. The Rhodes tweet, Ryan not kissing Belichick's rings, etc. This is an ENTIRE process. An attempt to clean this franchise off from the shit they've put out there in the past and to build a new image for themselves. The first loss is gonna suck, because people are quickly going to revert back to their old self. Those people are failing to see the big picture here. Hopefully in time they will.
I couldn't disagree more. You may want it to be a "devastating loss" if the Jets pull it off, but that will never happen, ever. No offense intended but I think it's the Rex Kool Aid talking.
I definitely understand that it's an important game in that it's going to give one team an early lead in the division (since both Buffalo and Miami can't get out of the weekend any better than 1-1). Good point. I guess we have to see how it plays out. In all seriousness, I hope you guys enjoy the game either way. Cheers.
nail on the head...it's called swagger...and Rex is building it up in this org. Not his problem if certain pussified jaded fans have a problem with it. Look at Steelers fans. They have swagger and seem to do it without being complete dicks like Pats fans.
I wish i could be a fly on the wall for Rex's pregame speech this week .... its going to be nuts!! I wanna see one of the players come out of that tunnel so fired up they spear one of the flight crew members! haha
Athe end of the day it's the end of the day......... I just hope the Jets do back it up and just win; otherwise they will have helped themselves to their first serving of self-induced humble pie.
It will be a hard faught game; I have no doubts about this. What I will not say is that the Jets are capable of destroying you guys. I just think that some of the things you use to be able to do in the past against us will not be there this time. I do think we are very capable of some bone-head penalties at inopportune times in the game. This could be all that decides the game.
We all hope the Jets win. Have you ever seen a trash talker stop talking trash even after they got their ass handed to them? Humble pie hasn't been on the menu for a long time regardless of wins or losses.
Dude, obviously theyre going to lose at some point. No, they won't back down on the trash talk afterwards, but they will correct their mistakes. Rex might seem like hes arrogant, but I know he's not stupid. Rex respects the competition and knows he has a better chance of winning with his boys fired up. Jesus, maybe I'll stay away from this message board if they lose one. I can only imagine how negative some people will be.
Nonsense! It's game 2, and the "experts" are all picking the Jets. If the Pats lose it's just one game. The Pats have been embarrassed by the Steelers during the regular season a few times and came back to whip their ass in the playoffs. It is only week two.
I remember this team in the AFL that got tired of the media saying they couldn't do it and that they were not in the same league as the other team. Eventually some guy named Namath finally had enough. It's about time we believed in ourselves.
