Was Pace an end before AZ went to the 3-4? He broke out in a new system in his contract year... sounds eerily similar to Bryan Thomas.
These arguments by parallel are worthless. Each player should be evaluated individually, and the Jets FO has probably seen more tape of Pace than this entire forum combined.
Sorry, I guess I got the wrong guy got in the line of fire. A lot of people have made this argument and it makes no sense.
I don't think it necessarily his career is going to follow the path of Thomas', it was kind of a joke, but I will admit that it's something to be concerned about when a guy blows up in contract year a la Haynworth or Thomas. It just depends on what his main motivation is... it'd be awesome if he is for real.
I'm sure if Thomas was on the weak side last year, people wouldn't have any problem with adding "another Bryan Thomas". I'm not as into adding Pace as I was because he's going to get more money than I expected, but I still think we would really improve the team. He's a very good strong side LB in the 3-4, and not only will he make that position better, he'd make the weak side better with BT returning there.
To me, this is what is critical - BT needs to either play weak-side or be cut. He is awful on the strong-side. He averaged 3 tackles per game on the strong side.
Dolphins | Team close to signing Pace Sat, 1 Mar 2008 15:41:01 -0800 Bob McManaman, of the Arizona Republic, reports the Miami Dolphins are close to signing free-agent LB Calvin Pace (Cardinals).
People on Finheaven are saying that it just is another posting based on the report from yesterday and it's nothing new.
Pace played strong side linebacker in 2007. Karlos Dansby played on the weak side. Monty Beisel started two games at WLB when Dansby was out.
Miami Station 790 supposedly reported that Pace has signed with the Jets and it'll be announced later today. Don't know how credible that is.
