"get his strength to where it has to be"? The guy out bench all linemen (offensive and defensive) at the combine, the majority of whom outweighed him by 30 to 50 pounds. There are plenty things that Mr. Gholston wil have to get to where it has to be but I don't believe strenght is one of them.

If Pace hasnt signed and follows through on his plans to visit with us, I believe Tannenbauma and Mangini will be able to sell Pace on playing here. Their competence and vision will shine through and Pace will have to be impressed by their haul this off-season as well as the character and big time talent the team already has (Harris, Rhodes, Revis). And lastly, I believe that once he meets Mangini and Tannenbaum, hell be reminded about how young and promising these guys are , and hell have to be honest with himself and acknowledge that Parcells is great, but old and past his prime.

However, if Pace already signed and doesnt visit, this cant happen. Lets cross our fingers hes still coming to visit.

By the sounds of some these posts, Jet fans are setting themselves up for some serious disappointment. Pace is not a "I hope we get him" kind of FA. He's more along the lines of "Oh we got Pace? OK". That's it.

No one player is going to solve our pass rush woes, Pace would certainly help in that area and he is certainly the best player available right now. Relying on solving our pass rush woes in the draft is risky, we dont even know if Gholston will make it to 6.

But I'm glad you can sit here and tell me I dont know what I am watching, I'm guessing you dont think Bill Parcells or our FO knows what they are watching either?

I would say Freeney is an extremely talented exception.

That's bench pressing. Only a part of the picture.

Skimming through some of the posts it doesn't seem like many people are overly excited about the prospect of signing the guy. The most compelling argument to even consider signing him seems to be that he could provide the FO with some flexibility come draft time.

I would be excited. An upgrade, is always worth getting excited over. That would instantly be moot after I seen the contract agreement for him.

Then again, how much more would he cost over the #6 unproven player we will end up with? Serious question..

Yea upgrades are always good. I just wonder how much money the Jets will have after the Jenkins and Faneca contracts, the #6 draft pick, and the possibility of keeping Drob. The FO should really try to sign Rhodes to a new contract this offseason as well. I said earlier that if Pace was reasonably priced I'd be all for it. If not, let him go to the Phins.

limas sweed, sedrick ellis, a CB, theres plenty of things they can do.

if they get pace im guessing they might go ellis or a CB.

and if things get sour with coles expect them to draft his replacement.

either way were making moves and filling holes.

I don't want Calvin Pace. He'd just be another average OLB. He had one productive season which happened to be right before his contract year. Sounds like Bryan Thomas to me. I rather spend the money elsewhere, like giving Rhodes a contract extension, or maybe even picking up a receiver like Walker or something along those lines. Pace is no better than Thomas or Bowens.

It would certainly start to look like that. If we do something at Right Offensive Tackle in FA then I think we are trying to be prepared for the possibility of getting McFadden at #6 or even a trade up (I hope we don't do this). If McFadden is not there, then you never know, Mendenhall could have wowed the heck out of the Jets at the combine and they may have him ranked very highly in the draft. The draft could go a lot of different ways right now. I think they are preparing to be able to go for BPA at #6, rather than pay too much for a need that they could address in the second round.

I am not College football fan so I do not know much about any of these guys you are referring to but what do we need another RB and what are we going to with TJ and LW if we got McFadden? I think we are set with at RB with the one-two punch we have. We need RT, OLB, CB, DE, and a big WR so whatever we do not get in FA, should be the priority in the draft.

He is not the best pass rusher available. With Suggs and Allen franchised and Justin Smith signed, the best pass rusher available is Antwan Odom of Tennessee. I wouldn't mind the Jets taking a look at him as a possible hybrid DE/OLB provided he's interested in playing in a 3-4.

Well this comment assumes that Parcells or the FO like Pace because he's a good pass rusher. If that is the case, then yes they too don't know what they are watching. It's more likely that they are interested in his versatility as a DE and LB as well as his experience, albeit limited, in the 3-4. Do you think the FO signed Kimo Von Old Hoffen last year because he was such a great run stuffer or pass rusher? For our sake (as Jets' fans), let's hope not.

No doubt about if Pace is an upgrade over Hobson; I'm not so sure about Bowen though. Nonetheless, the problem with getting Pace is that we have BT. If you are going to run a 3-4 base at the very least one of your OLBs have to be a good pass rusher. The two of them are average at best so we will continue having the same problem we've had since Abe's departure...NO PASS RUSH!!!

IMO - long will be the 3-4 DE and gholston the 3-4 OLB.....

it appears to me that the best position for long will always be the 3-4 end but gholston may be able to make the move to 4-3 end after a few years, if needed.
