Having signed Faneca and acquired Jenkins should make us extremely attractive to free agents- namely Pace- Why would he look to sign with 49ers or dolphins when he sees how much were committed to winning- IMO, we throw Pace the right amount of money and we got him. IMO, if 49ers and Dolphins match the number, we still got him. Just finish this off Tannenbaum- Sign Pace and get good value for DROB and do your thing in the draft.
To be honest, do you really know he will be a great addition? I mean, seriously, how many Arizona games did you watch? We all have seen Pittsburgh numerous times(Faneca) and we know about Jenkins. But Pace was a bust until his contract year, kind of like Bryan Thomas correct? If he gets a small/reasonable contract I'd be okay...But if this is going to be a big deal, this will be awful.
How much money does Miami have under the cap. They have been really busy, Earnest Wilford, Sean Ryan,Jason ferguson,Randy Starks,Justin SmileyJosh McCown. Calvin Pace and Justin Smiley are also due to visit, Boy are they throwing money around.
More likely Jenkins as far as Pace is concerned right? Both on the same side of the ball. Thats one of the nicest things about today so far, the Jets improved the lines on both sides of the ball. Should make the Jets attractive all the way around.
Don't know an exact number at this point, but they had a lot...I think somewhere around the high 30's.
I watched alot more Arizona games than you would think(gambled alot on them last year) what I saw was a guy that can rush the passer. Do I know he would be a great addition? No you never do at this time all FA signings are a risk. But we need pass rushers desperately and Pace is the best one available right now and is young and has flourished in the same scheme we run.
Sign Pace for SLB, move BT back to the weak side, maybe draft Gholston and utilize him on passing downs. All of a sudden, you've got a damn good pass rush.
If we get him and Gholston is gone, someone that a we either want will be there or b someone that someone else we really wants is there. Which means we can trade down and nab Gosder Cherilius and Kentwan Balmer
calvin pace had a really good year last year.. i looked up his stats expecting to see some average numbers, but i saw 98 tackles 6.5 sacks 1 forced fumble and interception. if we can sign pace to a cap friendly deal and trade away robertson this would really allow us to draft the best player available. If mcfadden was still on the board at six, you guys might call me crazy, but we should trade that 6th to the cowboys for their two first round picks and their second this year. It may even be possible to get their first next year instead of the second rounder this year. Its a long shot, but also very possible.
Agree completely. the possible signing of Pace by no means rules out Gholston. If would give us great flexibilty at the draft to take the BPA and not have to worry about holes to fill, or even trade down for multiple picks in a deep draft. As long as its not a break the bank type deal I say go for it. We still need to extend Rhodes so the money has to stop flowing sometime.
Nevermind, Pace signs with Miami. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/football/nfl/02/29/dolphins.pace/index.html
Why are you guys talking about Ellis and Gholston -- why aren't you talking about Gholston and Hobson? Gholston is an outside linebacker in the NFL, not a down lineman.
