Obviously we are just assuming here is there dude. Gholston needs to be chosen regardless of if we have Pace or not. If anything, Pace adds reason to why we should finalize our LB corp and take it to the next level.
I think we can still take Gholston if we sign Pace. Even if we sign Pace, we still need OLB's because we have none right now. Bryan Thomas and Bowens, that's it. Make it Thomas, Bowens, and Pace, and we still need depth and a talent upgrade at that position.
Agreed completely. If Gholston is there, whether or not we signed Pace, you still draft the guy. Especially with the way the Jets are constantly rotating players.
That's were you want to be going into the draft - taking the highest rated guy on your board because you've addressed your needs in free agency.
Trying to see what Cardinals fans are saying: some are saying he's a bust who had one solid year, and they don't mind him going, but many others see him as a rising very good pass rushing OLB in a 3-4 who finally found his niche in the new defense.
So assuming we sign Pace and Gholston is gone before 6 and DMC is also gone, I will have to say that we take Mendenhall.I absolutely agree with Mr.Electric. Mendenhall is a powerful tough runner.I will not want anything to do with Dorsey or Ellis.Plus I think D-Rob will remain on this team, so why put so much money into DT.If we have the chance to trade down we should consider it, depending on how far down and how much we end up getting.
These FA moves + Gholston gone @ 6th spot = Trading Down. If Shawn Kemp II is still there, Dallas FO better be in Tangini's speed dial list.
Don't be shocked if we draft Keith Rivers as another ILB, him and Harris could be tandem in the middle stuffing the run. A All-Pro NT, 2 huge ILBs, a shut down CB, and a do it all Safety-- is that a talented 3-4 defense for the NY Jets?
I think Rivers is smaller than Vilma at 220 lbs. I know he didn't weigh in at the combine and I may be wrong, but Rivers would fit just as bad as Dorsey and Ellis in the 3-4.
I have a hard-on for power backs, so I'd prefer Stewart personally. He would most likely be too much of a reach at our pick, however.
if we sign Pace and draft Gholston, there is no way Gholston sits on the bench...this int a qb, he will start and BT will be the depth...the Jets are still eyeing him, I think they want Pace and BT turns into the insurance policy if Gholston is gone or if someone offers the Jets a draft day trade they can't refuse...again, if Matt Ryan goes 1 to Miami, then Gholston will probably fall to us because STL will probably take Chris Long...
I dont think signing Pace would keeps us from taking Gholston if he is the BPA. We have exactly one decent pass rusher in Thomas right now. What it does is not force us into relying on either Gholston being there or needing to take him because we have no pass rushers. Signing Pace gives us the option to do anything with the 6 pick, whether it is the top CB, the top RB or trade down we would have the flexibilty to do it.
This would be an awful move if he gets Porter/Adalius money. His career season was 7 sacks? 7? And he is set to get big money? This will be a crime.
100% right, we sign Pace and we can do any number of things at 6- I still say sign Pace and draft Gholston.
The Porter/Adalius money was a rumor from PFT, take that with a grain of salt. I highly doubt he would have left Miami without signing that contract. We'll see what the money ends up being but he would be a great addition.
