The same could have been said about Drew Brees, Eli Manning, Alex Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Jay Cutler when they struggled early in their careers, but they all look like legit NFL quarterbacks now. Rich Gannon is a perfect example of a "never was" who became a Pro Bowl caliber quarterback when his understanding of the game caught up to his physical skills. Bottom line...the instant gratification mentality you're displaying would prevent many, many, MANY talented guys from ever developing into good quarterbacks if football people actually employed it. Thank God most of 'em don't.
I never blame Brodeur. The guy is almost 40 and has solidified himself as one of the greatest athletes in sports history. Every goalie has bad nights. Over the years Marty has had significantly less bad nights than any other goalie...ever. Its really only in his much older age that he has started to let in those super softies... Not to mention defensive breakdowns can result in goals no matter how fantastic your goalie is. There is no overcoming bad defense. To a certain degree i believe there can be some overcoming of a bad offensive line. Mark doesn't (in my opinion) compensate for the team when they play poorly. Whether its the offensive line or defense Mark doesn't not take the game on his shoulders and control it. Yea he's had his little one or two drives here and there (alot of which were some great receiving plays) but never really taking control of the game through his passing. I want desperately to see that from him.
Itd be one thing if the WR's were open all the time and Mark made mistakes, but thats not the case. Or if Sanchez sat back there had time to look around and then made a mistake, but thats not happening either. Even if Mark had some great run support, which he gets in flashes but nothing to make defenses respect it, id say "come on kid!" Lastly if Mark was playing for an OC who was able to change his gameplan when its not working, made the correct adjustements to whats happening to set Mark up for succes and he still made mistakes, Id say he has to do better. Oh yea and all these different reason all are causes and effects of the other, they are all tied together, it all comes back to where it all starts the O-line and Schottenheimer. Am I defending Sanchez? Hell no, I call it like I see, I dont care whos back there as long as they execute and right now the way eveyone EVERYONE is playing I dont see how Sanchez CAN execute.
they never really throw schotty under the bus. *EVER* I think it's because of Marty's presence (he used to do the morning show) and i still think he has clout at the station and is buddy buddy with some of those guys. so they ever avoid the topic or say something very brief. i remember the last time schotty was in that horrible stretch someone called to rant about it and all schein said was "yeah, there's no question brian schottenheimer needs to do a better job" and then it went to commercial right away. no elaboration, no continuation...nothing. i pointed out how in 6 years schotty has been absolutely mediocre at best and still has managed to keep his job somehow (which i pointed out, was political for awhile and now rex's loyalty is the reason he's still around till the end of the season). of course, they never touched on that. i wonder why?
I lived in Syracuse when Schein was doing sports talk radio there. He has made a career out of talking out of his ass. Through dumb luck i used to hang out with some of the guys on the syracuse basketball team and schein was consistently, ridiculously off the mark in his analysis and interpretation of everything from strategy to team chemistry. He's a clown who knows nothing but insists on saying it anyway.
