I'm on board with everything you said except Petty. I'd be pretty okay with Mariota, Winston, or Cook in the 1st. If it works out, great. If it doesn't, then we take to the draft again for a QB!
It would be tough for Cook to bypass being a potential top 10 pick to return to Mich St., no matter how much he likes it there. As the case with Matt Barkley, it is too much of a risk to start playing that game of returning despite your stock being very high. Not many instances like Mariota's where you not only keep your stock but improve it with another year of college. If Cook torches the Baylor D in a game scouts will be there to see Bryce Petty among others, I think that may be the clincher for him to declare. He needs a really strong game there. The team that takes Connor Cook may need to pull a Carson Palmer and point blank sit him down for a full year, or at best 3/4's of the year. Would bring in a veteran along with Geno Smith and have a (legit) competition with Cook as the no.3 and inactive for much of the year but around the sidelines glued to the QB coach, OC and veteran QBs(Geno will be a veteran with the amount of starts he has down heading to 2015) while getting his footwork, mechanics and have him watch the speed of the game as we spend another year trying to overhaul the talent on the team. You can give Cook the opportunity to win the job in TC/Preseason but Jet fans and the coaches needn't treat him as the savior and put all the eggs in the basket of the kid, that will do him no good. If he kills it, he kills it. If not, its not the end of the world.
Welcome to mediocrity and getting a mediocre QB. I cursed our stupid dolphins for not sucking for luck properly...Got stuck with Tannehill who blows.
I'm just as bummed about not having the #33 pick. Essentially extra first rounder, you get a day to think the pick over and potentially fleece other teams to trade the pick.
The thing is, the number 1 pick was never really in play with Bucs losing to Carolina earlier. I was all about the suck for the duck but Tampa seems to be all in as well and had the tiebreaker on their side. Mariota was probably not in play anyway. We might have to say goodbye to Winston and cooper as well now but that is no guarantee.
Draft order question I know we beat Oak and Ten but if we all finish at 3-13 who gets the tie breaker since its strength of sch...
Hopefully one of the teams ahead of us doesnt fall in love with Winston or Mariota. It seems to happen every year that a QB needy team waits to draft one. Last year Houston passed on Carr in the 2nd and waited to draft Savage. Just a possibility
Stop whining about wins. If you like a guy enough you TRADE TO GO GET HIM. No one "tanks" in the NFL. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Petty is the best QB in the draft. I was so relieved that we now assure ourselves of not getting a mobile QB or the crab leg stealing, point shaving, rapist. Get the best O-lineman in round 1 Petty in round 2. Then bring in a journeyman. (Orton, Hoyer, McCoy)
I really wish people would stop saying "well, the pick was out of reach anyway". Yes, TB lost and basically assured themselves a top 2 pick, but had we lost we would be sitting in 3rd right now, with a great chance to snag one of the elite guys(Mariota, Cooper, Winston), or trade up (I know, most think I just cursed) and get a guy they're sold on.
You need a partner to trade up. Why wouldn't TB take Mariota? And if they want to take him, what kind of package would you have to put together to make TB trade their pick to the Jets? Imo not happening. That's why I think the best move is to trade for Cutler. The Jets have plenty of holes elsewhere. Someone on the CBS pregame show said he could see the Jets going Cb in the first round. I could, too.
Someone who prides himself on being a football know it all just suggested we trade for Jay Cutler... a guy with a huge contract that can't get it done with elite talent around him. That's just too good. Way too good. The Jets trading for Cutler should be an absolute last resort behind "relocating to LA" and "folding a a franchise".
In the past 10 years the Fins have had the chance to draft three franchise QB's and passed -- Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco and Aaron Rodgers. Talent evaluation is the Fins problem, not that they weren't the worst team the one season there was a guaranteed elite QB coming out. You didn't need to suck for Rodgers but you didn't take him. And every team would take Rodgers over Luck any day.
Definitely saying goodbye to Mariota..fucking Dawan Landry.. I liked Laron a lot more. I wouldn't have minded a "Music City Miracle" but it really would've been a very embarrassing play in Jets history that we would've seen for years to come. Top 6 is a lot better than 18th. If we had the 6th pick last year we could've had Mike Evans or moved up a pick for Mack. The higher the pick, the better but if we do end up picking 6th we'll still have two top 40 picks. Mariota/Winston/Cooper/Gregory/Peat/Williams look to be the elite prospects this season. Hopfully Williams isn't the elite talent that lasts to the 6th pick, but we'll probably get more of an impact rookie than Pryor. Only thing that sucks is we're not getting a franchise QB without a kings ransom package..something we should avoid doing unless we can make a fair deal to move up a spot or two for Winston.
