I'm not a fan of Bud Dupree, Shane Ray, OR Vic Beasley. I would take Kevin White over all those guys if Amari was gone by number 6.
Why is it whenever their is a "question" regarding a pick; they have him going to us. Five teams are worse than us but they have better intuition?
It's an easy logical conclusion to make that a team with a blitz happy coach is going to want a better pass rusher. Beasley on the surface fills that. I don't think there's a chance that happens. If you look at Arizona's defense last year, no one eclipsed 10 sacks. Bowles succeeds at blitzing like a maniac because his secondary does its job. Without the superiority in the secondary, his defensive scheme wouldn't work.
I've seen him linked to us in 1 or 2 mocks, I'm not loving that at all. I think the combine is so overrated in evaluating talent. You either produce on the field in game action or you don't. I don't care how you look in shorts with no one coming at you.
This is the scary pick. I think Shane Ray being injured took himself out of the running. No way to Dupree.
Quick answer, UK's defense has been really, really, really bad. Like I said, I like Bud. Think he'll be a good player in the NFL someday. There's just no way I'd take him at 6.
The reason why his name is coming up is that the media is running out of OLB options at #6 so they're forcing it based on Jets need. He's not the elite pass rusher you'd like to see in a top 10 pick. He was not always used as a pass rusher but with the raw change of direction skills he demonstrated at the combine as well as on tape he has some upside with proper coaching. He's more of an all around player down the road..I thought the Pace comparison was a good one from a production standpoint. However he offers some schematic upgrades over Pace worth considering in a trade down scenario. Pairing Dupree(6'5 270 & athletic) with Coples(6'6 280 & athletic) at the flanks would affect a lot of things. That is some serious length & wingspan to go along w/ what the Jets already have upfront. The Jets would really be impossible to run on..including Qbs trying to escape the pocket. It also affects blocking schemes..regardless of whether the ends are the finishers of the front 7 or not their sheer length means they must be accounted for..which opens things up for Bowles blitz packages & Sheldon shooting the 1 gap. I'd consider him at #12 & on..
If any team takes Dupree in the top 10.then I don't think he ever becomes a good player in the league
Gholston knew how to use it, he just didn't want to. Gholston was way more productive than Dupree or any edge rusher in this draft
The advanced analysis on his play is downright comical - or horrifying, depending on if your team is the one interested in him: http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draf...k-armstead-overrated-prospects-2015-nfl-draft
