Can we trade our entire roster out for the first 53 picks in the draft? I think the rookie salary structure will make up for the dead money penalties.
He should retire, but his leadership, intelligence and experience shouldn't be discounted or ignored just because his stats were bad. Demaryius Thomas dropped a number of passes in the 3-4 games I saw. If he and other receivers dropped passes during the season that would affect Peyton's stats.
I came away from both the AFCG and the SB thinking the same thing; you need a quality offensive line to protect your QB and to get the tough 3 or 4 yards to move the chains. You go with a lopsided team, I'll go with a balanced team.
I agree. Big Ben would not have 2 rings if not for that defense. First SB - the defense / refs carried him Second SB - James Harrison runs a 99 yard INT return for a TD changed the course of the game completely until the end What gives teams a chance is a team that doesn't turn the football over and can generate turnovers. To me that spells average offense [w/ a running game] and an opportunistic defense that doesn't break in the EZ.
Nothing but it's the thought of what he could've been at least what the league was experimenting with a couple years ago. Give up a little weight for above average speed and a quick first step and you should have double digit sacks. Didn't happen with him. The NFL is proving more and more that as you said elite game changing pass rushers are just about as hard to find as franchise quarterbacks. Von Miller is an LT once in a lifetime talent. We can't drop everything we've been building and reach on a player hoping they're the next Miller (even though we need an upgrade).
Yeah and finding the next Von Miller isn't the best way to go about things per our previous history. We tried looking for the next DeMarcus Ware in Vernon Gholston. Can't drop anything, gotta stay the course. Hopefully we find someone soon.
If Mauldin can become a three down player we're in pretty good shape. That could be a somewhat big if, as he could wear down taking on blocks. It just adds so much variability to the defense when you don't have to mass sub on third down and teams don't know with 99% certainty what certain players are coming into the game for (obviously Mauldin is coming in to rush the passer).
Flacco? Eli??? Wilson? 2016 Manning??? And how did all these 'franchise QBs' (Brady, Rogers, Roethlisberger, Wilson) do this year? Oh that's right. They never even made it to the SB. Why? Because they all ran into a great defense that sent them all home.
Wasn't Von Miller drafted 2nd overall behind Cam Newton? So yeah, pass rushers and QBs are both hard to find. So which ever one comes along first, there ya go.
Just relax Lets have balance. Sick of putting the eggs in one basket. I admit I prefer D, but stop being so goddam reactionary. Our amazing D didn't win shit in 09 10. Calm the fuck down. Balance.
It takes both, Franchise QB, and an Awesome defense to be in the hunt every single year. If one gis playing the other, I will take defense every time. Tom Brady's best season, and arguably the best passing offense (18-1) in NFL history, got beat in the Super Bowl 17-14. To make matters worse for the QB argument, that Giants defense wasn't one of the all time greats. This should help prove that defense 1st, is more important.
i love this thread. you have some people saying you need an elite QB. you have others saying you need an elite defense. you have some people saying you need balance. everyone is stating each item as fact. I don't know why people refuse to look at the actual #s of SB winners rather than pulling random 'facts' out of their asses. But I'll just keep reading because its amusing.
Crushing Tom Brady and getting 15 minutes from playing the SB, a game we would most likely have won, equals "didn't win shit"???? Really??? 2014 we didn't win shit. But '09 '10 were two of the better years we've ever had. Try again.
Speed speed speed is right. ILB, OLB, and a KR. Another S would also help. And maybe that Temple CB we scouted at the Senior Bowl
It's not even just the drops the dude knows how to call the protection and audible even if the physical talent has disappeared. The turnovers were nasty but I still think he was a better option than Osweiler. Also Kubiak didn't really build the offense around what Peyton is able to do at this point wrt the passing game.
how so? are you referring to the cotch non catch? what about all the penalties on talib? the refs didn't lean one way or another.
