I think before the Pats game it was questionable whether or not he would hit the open market. But during media week they made it known that at the very least they were going to tag him.
And just one comment on Miller. As good as he is and as great as he's been the last 2 games , I dont know why so many people are now looking at him as the second coming of LT. Before the game last night a lot of people wouldn't even be calling him the best LB on the field.
Eh that's debatable. Hes not LT but he was highly regarded already. Any hope of him not being re-signed was delusional to begin with but now it's ridiculous to think he won't be.
OLB , yes. But to me , Kuechly would've gotten the vote for best overall LB if you were doing the vote before kickoff. People see dominance on a national level and it sways opinions.
they aren't the same type of players to me. So I wouldn't compare them to begin with. As an overall LBer Keuchly is better. Von Miller a better pass rusher.
The shame about last night is that is what Rex's 2009 D should have in theory been able to do all the way through the SB. But we could only do it for 2 games. Maybe this just highlights how important getting that bye is, one less game you need to shut down what is likely a great offense.
Its such a joke this team went so crazy with drafting DT/DE's. That shit better not happen this year. By taking Coples we missed out Chandler Jones, Whitney Mercilus, and Melvin Ingram. All of which had over 10 sacks this year. We should have taken Beasley over Williams last year too. It just eats me up.
Not sure. Rex 2009 D was faltered in the playoffs by lack of DB depth. That was our downfall. Denver has plenty, and better overall CB talent than the 2009 Jets did plus they were healthy.
I was under the impression we have been building the defense, for the last 16yrs, so the plan this offseason is to draft the Broncos defense!
Kuechly makes a lot of plays. Before last night, before the playoffs, if you were asked who would you take Miller or Kuechly? The answer has to be Miller. He is an absolute gem. Nothing against Kuechly but having someone do what Miller does from the edge is RARE.
If a player is about to be a FA and they just won you a Super Bowl almost single-handedly you bring them back.
I don't know what their cap situation is like but I thought they were in rough shape. Maybe it's not as bad as I had assumed, especially if Peyton is done, which he should be. I doubt yesterdays game has any impact either way. Everyone in the world already knew he was a beast pass rusher.
Their cap situation is looking bleak because they have Miller, Trevathan, Jackson, and Marshall all FA. Plus they just signed Wolfe, they have a lot of free agents and can't bring most back. Especially since Miller is gonna get a huge chunk.
Yeah Denver is going to lose a lot of depth on the defensive front. Trevathan and Marshall are most likely outta there. They'll save some by switching to Osweiler though who also is a FA but likely a franchise candidate if the give Von a contract.
I think they could do it as sort of a 1 year prove it type deal. Would def be more than they would want to pay but I dont know if they would be smart to give him a bigger deal based on 6 or so average games.
Why on earth would Denver franchise Brock? If they want to give him a 1 year prove it type of deal, then give him a 1 year prove it type of deal, not the franchise tag. There's nothing 'prove it' about getting franchise tag money.
The key two words are bolded. As we know, the reality is something quite different. In fairness to Rex, he never had a very good pass rusher, much less a Von Miller. It was rumored that he didn't place much importance on the OLB position and that he'd rather have faster DBs to rush the QB. If true, then that exposes the flaw in the design of his defense. His blitzes were easy to figure out and once they were, Rex had nothing.
