All these comparisons are so tough to really abide by. Mark Sanchez was terrible in his 23rd game throwing two picks and completing 42% of his passes..and he ended up sucking.
Did you happen to notice Anderson pulled up on the play downfield? Petty was trying to lead him and had Anderson kept running at full speed, it would have connected.
Bowles blamed this play on Robby in his conference call today. I was surprised, because he usually doesn't blame specific players, he just talks in generalities. "I thought Robby slowed up at the end of it. It was a bit of an overthrow, but I thought he slowed up."
The point being you can cherry pick 1 game from just about every HOF quarterback in history and find a game worse than Petty had yesterday. It is 1 game, it doesn't mean shit. You can also pick one game for every shitty QB, like Geno against Miami a couple of years ago to justify how great they are. But once again it is 1 game and doesn't mean shit. But people here think they can judge the future of a QB based off of 1 game. If Petty went 25-30 for 300 yards, 2TDs and 0 INTS and looked perfect we would still not know any more than we do right now. It is 1 game. I am in no way a Petty supporter, I really do not think he is going to amount for much, but I want to see him finish out the season to have a better idea if I am right or hopefully I am wrong. I still think Geno was the best QB on our roster for this year and should have been our starter, not saying much, but probably true.
It is pure lunacy people saying that Petty isn't the answer after one fucking game - that in reality, the kid didn't play that badly. Did anybody hear the kid after the game owning up to his short comings during the game? It was awesome to hear a kid that composed and this point in his development. I said it before, if healthy he gets the remaining games to show something. I could care less about W's at this point, if anything the perfect scenario IMO is the kid shows us some upside and they lose out - perfect outcome to a shit hole season...
It's the new millennium. Cry, and then steal some shit to make you feel better. And then sell that shit and give the money to strippers. And then cry.
That's a valid description of what happened. Problem was there were so few offensive pass plays (Rams TOP) every one is being scrutinized.
I get it. That's the shitty position the front office and coaching staff is in at this point though. Let's say Petty plays to the tune of an even TD/INT ratio the rest of the season with say a 60% completion percentage. I wonder if the Jets rank that as an acceptable performance to be the starter next year or if we're going to move on.
That is the key - I do not think he can earn the next years's starting job this year. He should just be able to earn the right to compete for it. He may not even be back up material, that is what we really need to figure out
Because cutting the starting QB because of a single play in the middle of a game isn't likely to be a good strategy?
I miss the early '80's Jet defense.....does that count? I also miss GI Joes, Transformers, and Battle Beasts......
