Here is another NYJ player that if we are counting on for a championship run will disappoint us greatly. He is just another NYJ typical draft pick that we have made year after year which is the reason we have been losers year after year as well
You know, reading the scouting report below I would swear that we were looking at an early-3rd round draft pick, certainly NOT someone swooped up in the first. Big reach by Crapway...
He shows flashes of being good .... He showed improvement towards the end of the year ... I'm interested in seeing what he does this year
Excellent post. I'm a big Bryan Thomas fan, mostly because I felt he was very good against the run - or at least underrated. If in fact he has the athletic ability to play in space at the elephant spot, that could make things very very interesting. Yet another storyline I aam eagerly anticipating.
Great info. but you are leaving out a crucial point in your thinking. Who is Thomas's Line coach? The exact same guy he had last year. While Thomas has been servicable as an end he has never been the pass rusher the Jets envisioned when they drafted him. And I don't see the same line coach finally reaching Thomas at this point. Yes the scheme will be different but I cannot imagine a huge leap by Thomas with the same coach that others see.
Why aren't writing in "Awareness" or "Good Vision". There are pro-wrestl;ers who have the size, weight, and speed-but that doesn't qualify them to play at an NFL level. If he can't sense a quarterbacks movement, create pressure situations, or dominate a lineman-he's just a roster space filler. I could care less that when he was in junior high, he had 17 sacks against a team that only played 7 men on the field. I care about what he has done for the Jets, and what he has accomplished since coming into the NFL. This is a make or break year for him, he better step it up...
I was skeptical opening this thread up, but I am glad I did. There is some great information here. I think Bryan's first year was mired by a nutrition issue, if I remember, and a slight girlfriend problem. None of which was overly damning. As was typical of many players under the Herm dumbrella, he was really never given a chance to acquire experience and given increased playing time. I do not think Bryan Thomas has ever been injured as a Jet. If you look at it, you have a first round pick on your team, with very low mileage, and he has been working at getting better physically and mentally. Through Thomas's years as a Jet, you never read anything about him causing any crap. When compared with Abraham: Abe older, much more mileage, a history of injury, a history of protecting his own interests and agenda, a whiner, etc. Granted, Abe was a great pass rusher, but to some extent he was one dimensional in that he was not that great against the run. To continue the comparison, and I am not attempting to justify that Thomas is as good as Abraham, because it certainly has yet to be proven; I just think that when you look at it from the baggage of one vs. the other, and taking into account the physical attributes, Thomas has a great chance to be a force on the Jets. I think Thomas will be one of the true positive surprizes for the Jets this year. I think Bryan Thomas's ship has finally come in. He will get his chance to be a full-time starter. I look for him to have a breakoout year with the Jets. I would not be surprized if he was a bit green in the first couple of games, but I think we will see consistant improvement with Bryan throughout the year.
You know, I'M a real big fan of Mario Williams. But I think BT deserves a chance to prove to himself and the Fans that he was worth a first round pick. And with the addition of Bryan Cox to the CS, maybe he can help him. But I think he has to work on his hand technique to improve his play, and if he can improve, than play him.
I think you drank to much Johnny Walker last nite also. I bookmarked this one for mid Jan 07 as I think you are way, way off base sorry to say.
Anyone have an idea where Bryan Thoms would fit into a 3-4? I know he is effective in the 4-3 against the run but in the 3-4 I can't see him having a position on the d-line and he's too stiff to play linebacker.
Didn't they keep Marcin as the line coach so basically it will be very similar coaching. Maybe a new scheme will help him.
