OK...Jets' had a choice of Vilma or Wilfork in that draft & the Jets' went for Vilma.....:shit: Personally, I like Vilma....he's tough & hard-nosed, but he ain't no NT & really..Up-front is where all the action starts .......Wilfork always made Vilma look good.....they were college teammates & made Vilma look good there also. Vilma was really the 4th best player on that defense that year. ...remember.... 1- Wilfork 2- D.J. Williams LB 3- Sean Taylor SS 4- J. Vilma LB
Funny you post this cause Coker said on Miami radio that we erred in drafting JV over Wilfork. While a totally agree with ur thoughts the problem is that above average NTs are a very, very rare commodity & do not normally just fall out of trees. As a stop gap if Sapp frees up he would be a good acquire until we find that young dominating NT
Remember this in the Wilfork vs. Vilma discussion: 1-Jets were a 4-3 team in 2004 and 2-Jets had drafted D-Rob in 2003 -- so two first round DTs in two years? 3-Jets draft was being conducted by Terry Bradway in 2003 and 2004 -- a slighly different outlook that what we have now...
Yes those are valid points you posted. Well what is wrong when we were playing the 4-3 of having 2 #1s as DTs on your front line? Actually, the point I was making in Coker HO he was saying the better player was Wil not JV when our turn came up. Maybe if we were smart we take Wil & then do what SD did with the NYGs in trading Eli for Rivers & then getting Merrimen. As I said maybe the Raiders will axe Sapp & he will be serviceable for at least a year or 2 until we can locate the dominate NT that we need for the long haul.
