It's not that, it is just our secondary as a whole. Cro and Wilson were practicing out of position, Pool was out, we had Wilson in, we have Wilson out, Coleman in, Pool is back, Revis is back but not really, it has been a ongoing circus back there even through training camp. Our secondary needs to develop chemistry just like any other group in football, with almost different starting lineup every week that is very hard. Rex relies on that, because we blitz so much. I'm not piling on Revis here, but this all stems from him being out of TC. Once our starters are set and have some real time together they will be lights out. So far its been like freaking musical chairs.
He hasn't made much of an impact but he also hasn't been woefully lost in coverage like our buddy Kerry used to be.
I think Leonhard has gotten beat more then Pool. Pool has been fine. I'm not knocking Leonhard. The guy is a big part of what we do. He's probably the smartest player on the team. If only Sherry Rhodes had 1/5 of the heart this guy has.
Exactly, his job is to lay a Mofo out coming across the middle. He's called the strong safety for that reason, by definition his position lines up against the "strong" side of the offense likely where the TE is. SS's play closer to the line, and are often responsible for covering the back running out for a pass. FS, is supposed to be fast and athletic to help the corners on their deep routes, or just help in general.
I'm going to wait until we have a healthy Revis before judjing him... having the best CB in the game does make the job a little easier for a FS. That said I'd love to have a guy ala Earl Thomas but all in all I'm content to have two solid FS in Smith and Pool.
I haven't been overly impressed with Poole to date. Hopefully it is just an adjustment period. Was expecting him to be looked at after the season as a key pickup that flew under the radar initially. Still prefer him over Rhodes.
i disagree after mini-camps, leonhard said that the best thing about brodney is that he brings a skill set that makes the safeties interchangeable, so offenses have even less of a clue what is coming
i've heard rex say on several different occasions that the secondary is still a work in progress. 3 new pieces back there with revis out. they need to communicate better is the upshot. pool will only get better though there is a learning curve.
