I didn't say that you do trade up and reach for a tackle. In fact, I said that if they get the #11 pick it almost guarantees they get an LT in the first round without reaching or having to trade up. RIF
Good point. In a perfect world, the Jets could announce Brick took a pay cut which allowed us to re-sign Fitz. Then, after the draft where we used our pick from Mo to move up and steal Laremy Tunsil, Brick announces his retirement.
This was just the NFL being the NFL. We all knew D'Brick was worried about the health implications. His recent statements have made that clear. We all knew that lots of players are retiring a year or two early, particularly if they made money early in their career. It just is what it is. There's no fault to be assigned here. D'Brick made his decision, and it was a good decision for him. The Jets knew this might happen and they'll figure something out. They have a bit of cap space for the first time in months to work with.
The Jets would never be so lucky........and in that move up scenario it would be for a QB Although Tunsil would solve LT for the next 10-12 years....
I'm wrong because I don't agree with players taking pay cuts. Do owners give money back to the fans? When they don't put a playoff team together?
I agree with all your posts here, but it's worth noting that unlike the Broncos with Kaep for example, the Jets were not asking Brick to forgo guaranteed money.
Albert Breer @AlbertBreer 2 last things on Brick retirement: 1) Won't affect NYJ offer to Fitz; 2) Jets made solid offer to Beachum in March, Jax beat it; Jets knew. Hmm...
I understood what you said. There's only 2 tackles worth really taking that high and both could be gone by 11 so yes they could reach for one. There are no guarantees in the draft.
Seems like they will be signing Ben Ijalana, who was Bricks backup. Maybe he is the safety valve. If he could give them the same production as a diminished Brick did last year, I'd rather that then they spend alot of money on the free agents that remain.
http://www.ganggreennation.com/2016...haw-ferguson-would-have-played-at-full-salary For anyone thinking retirement was option 1 for Brick
All player contracts should be guaranteed. The career of an NFL player is the shortest of any major sport. The NFL makes more than enough cash to allow this to happen. If the NFL REALLY cared about player health and safety this would be a good way of showing it. Geno007, players shouldn't take pay cuts. The NFL contract is not worth the paper it is written on.
I agree... Plus I think it funny when people say somebody should take a pay cut. It easy when your talking about somebody elses money.
I agree with you geno, these guys are thrown away like pieces of shit on a constant basis. they are chewed up and spit out by the guys who make the real money, the owners. I think that them trying to talk to him about a restructure or whatever they talked about was just the final straw for a guy who was already on the verge of walking away. I read an article last night that he was very annoyed with the nfl and especially one of the jets trainers who just blindly said there was nothing to fear. he was concerned about it not just being about dramatic head injuries but problems coming from lower level contact over time. which I am sure he dealt with quite a bit in his career. for them to come to him and say hey that money we agreed to a number of years ago, well we both know its not guaranteed and we need YOU to step up and do whats best for the team so we can make the moves we need. I am pretty sure my response would be similar, only I would probably be far more honest. f.....u you mothers have bamboozled the players for 30 years and lied to us about the research you did and now you want me, a good soldier who has played every snap over the last 10 years to give money back. hell no.
