Forget Hoyer, Austin Davis completed 18 of 21 for 2 TDs against Seattle. If they don't start him next year we should trade for him. A FA undrafted player who is twice the QB Smith is.
A player would probably rather go to a team where they'll play over riding the bench. If the incumbent sucks, they have a better shot at starting.
Wallace has completed 65% over the last three seasons with a 2 to 1 TD to INT during that time, and at 6'4" he is a good candidate and a would be a nice change after Smith and Vick. Smith and Vick would never see a 65% rate, even in their dreams. Problem is Wallace is a toss up as a draft pick. Davis is better than anyone would have thought and has out played all his peers, while playing on a shitty team.
Funny reading page one of this thread with everyone "hell yeah he's awesome we gotta get him in here". Bahahahahaha
If Cleveland gives the starting job to Johnny Football, Hoyer may not be dealing from a position of strength. No one is going to give him Joe Flacco money based upon his play this season, especially if Cleveland doesn't even want him. If someone else is willing to overpay him I would not stand in their way.
Hoyer is Boy that's a murderer's row of QBs. I'd rather stick with Smith and draft a QB if he doesn't improve over the next 9 games than go with other team's trash in Hoyer or a career back up in Makket. If home town Cleveland boy Hoyer can't beat out Manziel, I don't want him here. What has Mallet done to deserve a shot except carry a clip board behind Ryan Fitzpatrick in his fourth season. Please!
Clearly he doesn't want a good QB, he simply wants the emotional satisfaction of a QB competition regardless of whether the winner is merely the best of the mediocre.
Can't fix all of our problems in one draft. For now get me a QB that can hold the fort (without leading the league in turnovers) while we rebuild the OL and fix other holes. We can get our future QB later. Some of you Geno Smith / front office apologists just look through your rose colored glasses and think you have all of the answers except how our great QB / front office got us to 1-6. How did that happen if they are doing so good genius?
Perhaps you should actually address the argument rather than resort to ad hominems because if you did you wouldn't make asinine accusations that someone is a front office homer just because they are able to show how ridiculous your suggestions are.
I'm underwhelmed by Hoyer, even in his supposed "good" game he only completed a few passes. The QB's scheduled for FA are: Jake Locker Christian Ponder Matt Moore Ryan Fitzpatrick Mark Sanchez Matt Flynn Ryan Mallett Austin Davis Matt Hasselbeck Michael Vick Brian Hoyer Case Keenum Colt McCoy Jason Campbell Luke McCown Blaine Gabbert Scott Tolzien Joe Webb Tyrod Taylor Dan Orlovsky Kellen Moore Jimmy Clausen Tarvaris Jackson Shaun Hill Mike Kafka TJ Yates There's a pretty good chance Sam Bradford will be released as well. Hoyer is actually kind of low on my list of QB's to bring in. I'd rather sign Ryan Fitzpatrick, or even Jake Locker. What kind of QB we're in the market for completely depends on what the end of the season looks like. If Geno finishes the saxon looking like absolute garbage, Ryan Fitzpatrick is my choice and then probably draft a QB at some point. If Geno finishes the season looking ok-good, I'd be interested in possibly picking up Jake Locker. Other teams probably looking for starter at the end of this season would be the Texans, Titans, Rams, Bills, and Buccaneers.
I'd give Matt Moore a look. I've always thought he was solid. I'd bring him in regardless of how Geno finishes the season.
Hm, weird, I could have sworn I was just looking at his contract. Ah well, I'd look at Matt Moore too as well if Geno sucks it up.
Hoyer's kinda ass, every time I notice he's playing he has a sub-50 completion percentage. I'd be more excited about guys like Locker and Bradford who have lots of raw ability. "Low floor, high ceiling" should be the motto where we are right now.
I just think Bradford is going to get decent money somewhere like Tennessee where they have a coach who makes his living working with QB's. Mettenberger is a 6th round pick, and Whitehurst is a career backup so it's doubtful they will want to roll with them next year, and Ken Whisenhunt may look at Bradford as an opportunity to get a very talented player who just hasn't been well coached.
