He only became a consistent starter last year. During that span, he's shown that he takes care of the ball. No one is calling the dude Joe Montana but he will be one of the top FA QBs and certainly better than anything on our roster.
DRAFT BO WALLACE! But, yes. 100% if Hoyer is available in the off season, I definitely go and try to bring him in..
He played three games last year. That does not qualify as consistent anything. And you can't say he takes care of the ball. He threw three interceptions in those three games. He also barely got hit so we don't know what he's going to be like when he gets hit 20 times a game like Jets QBs do. Oh, and how's he doing against the Jaguars, a shit-tier team, today? 8/26, 88 yards, a rush for -1 yards, and a huge fumble deep in his own zone.
If we could have only won the Scott Mitchell free agent frenzy we could have reversed the championship drought two decades ago and wouldn't be still trying to find the next Scott Mitchell today.
We need a real competition in training camp every year until someone proves themselves worthy of the starting job. Bring in Hoyer and Mallet to compete with Geno. May the best man win.
Absolutely! Let's pay a guy who will likely command mid range starter money who we inherently think is not actually be good enough to start and should be part of an open competition. What other positions should we pay starter money to but not actually think they are good enough to start?
Cousins, the guy who just got benched for sucking so badly in favor of Colt McCoy? Why do you all love mediocrity?
We shouldn't get our hopes up with any of these guys. Hoyer, Cousins, Mallet, bradford, they wouldn't be cure alls, we shouldn't put them on a pedestal and act like they'll bring us to the promised land, or hell even be game managers. If they're available its for a reason. thats not to say they CAN'T pan out, or that another QB shouldn't be pursued but lets not act like they're all we need to succeed. We have more issues beyond the QB position, namely the O-line.
We are talking about Hoyer, and specifically your suggestion to sign him at what would be starter money but your own admittance that he may not be good enough to start and thus should be part if the competition. How that could make sense to you is astounding; as astounding as how you could confuse the discussion as about whether anything I said could be interpreted as an endorsement of Geno.
If I am bringing Hoyer in to COMPETE for a starter job, his contract will include incentives so the only way he gets starter money is if he wins the starter job. You have to appreciate that there are only 8-10 teams that a backup QB can go to and expect to compete for a starting job. If they sign with Atlanta, Green Bay, or New England, they know full well that an injury to the starter is the only way their ass is getting off the bench. When it comes to the QB positon, Geno's poor play actually leaves us in a position of strength when it comes to signing a free agent QB.
News to me, thanks. But still believe we need a Good Vet QB first and then buid around him since 2015 class of QBs are meh
So in your scenario no other team offers him a better contract than back up money with starter incentives and thus the hypothetical jets offer is the best there is and he will jump at the chance at signing it? And you want to discuss this hypothetical as if it is actually plausible and worth discussing?
so you were championing Cousins with no idea if he was any good or not? because you couldn't possible think he should be brought in if you were actually following his play.
Are you fucking kidding? Like the Jets opted for the unproven Draft pick over the playoff winner? let's get THAT guy! He actually has a reason to stick it up Idziks ass.
