That's what made the Manziel drafting even worse in my opinion. Hoyer played well last year before he got hurt. They should've never drafted Johnny.
I'm starting to get more and more comfortable with this idea. As much as I'd like Mariota, I don't think we'll have a realistic shot and Hoyer would be a nice guy to build around. Think about where the Browns were though, an unproven QB with a major injury, not knowing what you really have and a rabid fan base clamoring for a winner, someone to rally around just sitting there. Now you've got two potential guys who could be THE guy, let them duke it out, improves your chances of finding a true stud. Like if we had grabbed Teddy or Carr- one of those guys battle it out with Geno and maybe we find our franchise QB. _
Mariota is like Colin Kaepernick but a lot more refined out the gate. Would LOVE to see us draft him. Ridiculous athlete.
Clearly. I think Manziel COULD be good--maybe great--but he could also flame out famously. I just don't think anyone can know which way he'll go for sure. He's just such an enigma. _
Hoyer would be a great move here even if it's in the 6 mm range. It'd be nice to have a viable stopgap for once
I have my mixed feelings about how good Mariota could be. I think he's overvalued at his current ADP. If he's being picked in the top 5 I'd steer clear. Late 1st then maybe he's worth a shot. Like I said in previous posts, I wonder how good Kaep would be on a team like us with limited offensive weapons. Mariota could be great if lets say a team like Denver drafts him and he is able to take over in a year or two when Peyton retires. But if he goes to a team with limited options on offense he could struggle fairly easily. Unless the Jets upgrade the offense with weapons and o-line help during next offseason I see a potential Mariota drafting ending the same way its ending with Geno.
The Jets need a starter and backup next season, I doubt the Brown's let Hoyer go, Manziel is an ass-clown, I think the Brown's are realizing that.
I don't hate the idea but I think the price tag will be high for a guy who clearly isn't a top tier QB. It will be easier to find a comparable QB at a better value.
Cleveland wants Hoyer but doesn't want to pay him top 15 money. They want to do an $5-$8M a year deal like KC originally did with Alex Smith or Tampa did with McCown. If the Browns trade a QB it would be Johnny Football, but they would want a 1st round pick which is too high.
It wouldn't be strange at all, they're the Browns. They also drafted "Johnny Football" and did everything they could to force feed the starting job to him.
I'm trying to think why you -wouldn't- get Hoyer and pay him a starter salary if you have the chance.
