On a completely different roster, with a different coaching staff, different personel (most agree the roster is worse then the jets, which helps your cause) and more importantly: A completely different type of Offensive System.

AKA: chad had his time with Mangini's offense, and it just wasn't really his style. Heck, it wasn't even #4's style, but because of Favre's stature, they made the necessary changes to resemble more like hte packers of 07 passing offense: Lots of really quick passes, and the slant is vastly becoming the bread and butter play yet again.

With chad, the offense is entirely different. I never doubted that chad could PLAY WELL in hte NFL, I just felt the jets offense wasn't suited for him, and they weren't going to play to chad's strengths enough because he didn't have the stature to warrant that treatment. He was suppose to adjust. He would of still been forced to adjust this year.

Your basing everything on "what if". You feel more secure if chad was leading this team then Favre? Would you have felt as secure if chad had lead this team, and your 6-5 right now instead of 8-3? Chad's influence alone is so completely trumped by Favre, that it's hard to say all facets of this team would be playing like they are now with Chad as the guy. It's also hard to argue that the quick passing game would be working so well either.

It's also hard to argue that chad will come throuhg in the cluthc. Yes, He's been good this season in crunch time, but again, a completely different offense.

Needless to say, Chad needed a offense with the style of the Giants, the style of Parcells, to succeed. The pressure isn't on him to win games. Sure, with us running it 40 times a game, it seems like the jets style would work for him... but how many of those running lanes are opened up because their are not 8 guys in the box anymore? Magini even said himself that when brett saw 8 in the box, he audibled to a quick slant and picked up easy first downs.

Chad has played well this year, no doubt. Glance at these number comparisons though,a nd tell me who is putting the points on the board:

    Favre

    245 Completions 347 Attempts

    70.6% Completion %

    7.06 YPA

    56 Yard Longest Pass

    20 TD's

    13 INTS

    21 Sacks

    94.1 QB Rating

    2461 Yards Passing

    Chad

    225 Completions 341 Attempts

    66.0% Completion %

    7.96 YPA

    80 Yard Longest Completion

    11 TD

    6 INTS

    21 Sacks

    93.7 QB Rating

Now, Chad has more yards (although, we have a better running game, so there is no need for #4 to have more), more yards per average pass, a longer completion (although, most of that was YAC), and less interceptions. QB rating is comparable, sacks are dead on.

What is the most important stat for QB's, outside of the W in the column?

Arguably? Completion Percentage, and TD's. The more you are completeing, generaly the less interceptions your throwing. SUre, Favre counter balances that a bit, but that "counter balance" also lead to 9 more scores then Chad. Add on the fact we have more rushing TD's then then Miami... and you start tog et a picture here.

Chad is having a good, heck a great year for Chad. Unfortunately for him, #4 is doing what he seems to always do, put the points on the board. Nothing taken away from chad, but 11 TD passes through 12 games, no matter even if he had ZERO INTS, would not cut it. It wasn't cutting it before, and it wont be cutting it now. He's moving the chains, playing well, but not producing the points. Sure, maybe it's Miami? Well, chad, prior to being hurt, was the same way. Yeah, you got in the playoffs once with him, only to get bounced round one. I think the jets have a bit higher espectations this season, and #4 is at least part of the reason.

Yes, I am biased, as it appears you are. I think most would agree: Jets have a better chance at a SB with Favre, then with Chad.

If only the Jets had discovered the high school offense when Chad was here.

If Chad ever gets an opportunity to go to the playoffs again, I guarantee he won't even get to the Superbowl. He's a great guy to root for, cool, but the defenses in the playoffs are better, the weather's cold and windy, and they will have had plenty of tape on him by that point, and will have a pretty good idea of what to do against whatever amazing underthrown flea flickers he has been implenting all year.

With Favre, you have one of the top quarterbacks of all time (not arguably), who will be able to keep opposing defenses in check with his mind and physical tools, until finally getting the check-mate.

Speaking of tools, I don't know why Favre has garnished this certain population of NFL fans that hate him so much.

He is good at and has a passion his job, he's done it for a long time. After the great season but heartbreaking loss to the Giants, he let his emotions settle after retiring momentarily and found in himself the desire to still play. It's not his fault the media recognizes that he's STILL one of the best players in the league and chooses to cover it. Switch to ESPN Classic or the History Channel if you would rather hear about something else during the offseason. I'd rather hear about if a legend is going to play again than if Pacman is doing illegal things all offseason anyway.

Sorry for the book, but damn.

Packerbacker, its clear reading your post that you dont have much knowledge of the Jets history or Chad. Like many posters on this site, your whole view of Chad is the two years after returning from his second surgery. For example: He has lead us to more then one playoff appearence. He lead us to ONE playoff appearence after he came back from a second surgery on his throwing sholder (something nobody else, even the great Brett Favre, has been able to do in thos league). ANd that team was nothing to write home about.

What you also fail to realize is we have Favre running a Chad offense. WTF are you tlking about its not a Chad offense. No way Favre runs what we are doing now better then Chad would have.

What you fail to realize is that Chad is playing much better and looks much stronger then he did those two seasons. He is playing more like "good ol Chad". The Chad that many of US knew and loved. He ain't ours anymore so its time to move on.

But I just thought it bore mentioning that now in week 11 I would rather have that Chad leading us. ANd I believe Favres "love of the game" is more related to being the center of attention - which I dont admire. I dont consider Favre a better leader.

    Lemme get long winded.

And I dont consider it a bias. I was posting that Chad should be a backup along with the rest. I lost confidence in him after our horrible year. This season he was saying the arm felt better then it has in a long time and we all were all like "we have heard that before". All he asked going into this season was a chance to compete for the job. Basically the complete opposite view of Favre this season. Picthing fits like a prima dona about the idea of competing for his job.

Never the less he is my QB and my gameday chant is "go Jets! go Brett!".

^ You do not understand what Favre is doing at the QB position. You really don't.

You've got to be kidding me. A few weeks ago, I would at least say it was arguable that Penny was "outplaying favre almost every week". But come on, that is certainly not the case anymore. Favre has been nothing short of outstanding these last 4 weeks. You are so clueless of how much Favre has helped energize this team. HIS ENTIRE TEAM HAS BEEN SAYING OVER AND OVER AGAIN HOW MUCH HE HAS CHANGED THE MINDSET OF THE TEAM. It is not just Favre supporters, its the FREAKING TEAM. Man its frustrating to hear Jet fans whine about letting Penny go when they have a more than capable replacement that is setting them up for a long playoff run while the Packers let Favre go and are slipping completely back to mediocrity. Be HAPPY FOR GOD'S SAKE! A pretend cool guy? Please oh please elaborate?

you can argue about who is playing better this year all you want, but go watch the td pass to coles last week, the third and 15 to keller against the pats in ot, and the pass to coles that put us in field goal position in ot against the pats. chad doesn't even dream of making those passes, hell most qbs couldn't even dream of making those passes. chad more than the others. i dont care about the stats anymore, anyone who can't see what brett has brought to this team that chad couldn't is simply way too attached to chad.

its great for chad that he is having a nice year. if he wasn't playing for the dolphins i would be rooting for him to do well because he was a good player for us. i have also been surprised about chads arm strength this year, he has obviously gotten stronger than the last few years here. with all that said trying to say he could do the same things brett has done for this team is silly at best.
