Vick actually has a very strong arm but you are absolutely correct that it's not in Brett Favre's league.
He never said he wished Favre wasn't a Jet. He just stated clear facts from as recent as a year ago. Brett's your quarterback now and if you want to know what he can and can't do (which everyone wants to talk about here) then you should look at what he did last year. No way could one year make that much of a difference in his game. No one really knows if he had an injury earlier in the year that's been hurting his game, so I can't comment on that. But barring anything like that, he can still do all the same things he did last year for the Packers this year for the Jets. Obviously the new system, new playbook, and team chemistry have played a factor, but I think all those things will continue to get more comfortable for Favre as the year goes on and even into next year if he decides to come back.
I guess i dont understand how if some of us discuss how he played last year vs this year we have packers goggles on and don't talk Jets football. Just to double check i went on the interweb and it turns out Favre plays for the New York Jets. So if i talk about some of the moves Coles had playing for Florida Vs the moves he has now that means that i'm only a Florida fan right. Or if i talk about Mangold playing for Ohio state and what he did for them, then i have Ohio State goggles on right. I have thoroughly enjoyed being a packer convert. In fact i haven't watched a single packers game all year. I found alot of great players on this team and alot more talented players than I thought the jets had. And if the jets win the superbowl or lose the next two games, and if Favre leaves this year, next year or quits tomorrow i'll still be a huge fan of the jets. It seems some people were alot more welcoming to us converts earlier in the season and even more welcoming about the time we beat NE and Ten. And now it seems like some (not all) have yanked that welcome mat out and now consider it their new york jets and our (packer converts) quarterback. I thought they all played on the same team. And i know your going to say that you've been a jets fan since 1883 and we just got here but the truth is i'm here to appreciate the WHOLE TEAM and i've found players on this team i may like more than Favre. So if we discuss Favre with GB vs Favre with NYJ just remember we are doing it as fans of the jets and not a QB with our packers goggles on.
I'm just sayin don't defend Favre's poor performances this season with his performance last year. If you think GB's WRs are godlike that's cool, but don't go and blame Jets WRs for Favre's misthrows.
Great Post. :metal: Personally, I think it's really awesome that you have decided to root for the Jets. Don't get bent out of shape over what someone who doesn't even know you writes about your loyalty (or that person's perceived lackthereof) to the Jets. You are rooting for the Jets now and you are posting on a Jets message board and talking Jets' football as enthusiastically and intently as any of us. You're a Jets' fan and I'm glad to have you (and all of the other Packer converts similar to you) supporting the New York Jets.
Don't take my pottymouthing personally. I didn't mean to generalize Pack/Jets fans or question your fanhood; I was responding with what Packerbacker said. I'm not sure anyone can say definitively what Favre can and can't do, but having watched Favre this season, I've seen what he has and hasn't done.
Mangold for one. I think even Favre said he was better than Frank Winters. Thomas Jones. He could be the best RB in the league in my opinion. Leon effing Washington. Can you say holy shit? this guys got so much talent i bet he craps it. I only saw the one handed play by clowney but i want to see more of this guy.
Isn't it a little late in the season for a chemistry problem? We are going into the final two weeks of the season and we still have a chemistry problem? If this is true then whos fault is that? A hint would be the person that throws the ball. WRs can learn to make adjustments but the QB has to take charge and make the throw. I doubt they are talking about chemistry problems much in atlanta or baltimore going into the final weeks. And they have QBs who are not only on new teams - but in a new league - and they also have average recievers. Shaun Hill, in 3 games, has already developed a strong chemistry with his WRs. There is no excuse for a veteran QB to "not have chemistry" this late in the season. Like GBA said, quit blaming other positions for favres mistakes.
Just responding to your last couple of posts. I don't think GB's WR's are or were godlike. GB had/has some talent in the department but so do the jets. They play different and the playcalling is different but both talented none the less. Coles, Cotchery, Stuckey, and after last game Clowney have just impressed the hell out of me. In fact for some reason Coles kinda reminds me of Andre Rison. I think most of my posts would indicate that my problems lie with the CS and their bad playcalling and pathetic excuse at halftime adjustments. And my goggles aren't so thick as to realize that Favre isn't playing like he should. He looks uncomfortable and robotic. He looks hurried and flustered, and determined all at the same time. So you get great plays or horrible int. I won't speculate on why he's playing the way he is. I will say that i still believe he needs to calm down and play smarter, the CS needs to call better plays and make halftime adjustments, and yeah i think they should work on some routes that might help with seperation. Not because the WR's arent talented but because a little more seperation never hurt anybody.
His arm strength is fine and is miles above what the Jets have seen in the past few seasons. He is playing with 6 new receivers in Coles, Cotchery, Stuckey, Smith, Keller, and Clowney and a brand new playbook, that seems to change a lot. if he truely mastered the playbook, he would know where every receiver is at all times on every play. He's close, but that's where most of mistakes come in. i'm not saying it's his fault at all, but it does take more than 14 games with a new team before you will see the best in a QB.
I am not even sure if we have a "chemistry problem" as was mentioned by packerbacker. I am just pointing out to him that if we do - its the QBs fault not the recievers fault.
how is that? because you say so? Favre got here 2 weeks before the season started. he never had training camp or an entire preseason to learn the playbook and develop chemistry so you have to keep that in mind as well. and you saying that it's all Favre's fault if there's a chemistry problem is as bad as any of the packer converts who say you can't blame favre for any of the problems this year (which none of them have btw)
You would think by week 17 Favre would be able to throw the 6 yard lob to the sideline over the LB head and drop it into Coles hands so it doesn't sting in the cold weather.
Chad did complete that 50-55 yarder though the air to Moss in the San Diego playoff game a few years back, and that with his bad shoulder. After the throw he flexed for the sideline - I think that was my favorite Chad moment of all time.
By this logic, all the Chad fans should continue to post as if he is still a member of the Jets roster, and never have to suffer rebuttals. Just sayin'.
Hopefully it's football player...I'm coming up on 39 quite soon. What I see Favre as is just an all around great passer. You can't really pigeon-hole the guy into any 1 role. He's got all of it, or had all of it. He still makes some big-time throws in all directions. Across the field, down the field, to the right receiver to the dump option, to the opponent (heh), etc...etc...etc... Everyone should just relax with the "bomb" thing. It's overrated and you're not always going to get the flag or the reception. What I'm thinking they should do is now start pushing the ball down the field to push the D back, because opposing teams have been riding up to the line. It's time to switch up and catchin someone off guard.
