Hey everyone is not going to agree on every issue . . . while you may disagree with the pink, you should be able to see the good the is being done overall and say hey NO BIG DEAL . . . . whatever you decide the awareness and having add'l females being tested is the point and it goes a long way across the country.
I don't get how its even an issue. Its just a bunch of cry babies complaining about a color. They don't like a particular color is such a problem that they can't overlook the fact that its for a very good cause.
That's precisely why they'd make more money for cancer with a better color / design. I'm not watching ballet. It's football. Why pay for a hat you'll never wear when you can just directly donate to the organization if that's your ultimate goal.
I don't see it as a distraction at all, I donate time and money to breast cancer charities and then somebody very close to me was diagnosed. She just has a massectomy about 2weeks ago. I've always felt that anybody including the NFL who raises awareness is doing something good.
I think fans all over the country should begin burning these hats in protest of our game being taken over by this color for an entire solid month of our season. I absolutely don't want to see this year after freaking year after freaking year, no matter how much I support the cause I hate this freaking pepto bismol color!
OK, all things being equal, I really don't see how this is actually raising breast cancer awareness...do you? You gotta be living in a cave or have limited mental capacity to not already be aware of it. The colors don't bother me. My grandmother died from breast cancer. I mean really...this raises awareness how?
How about womens tennis and volleyball wearing combat boots and camoflauge military uniforms in honor of Prostate Cancer Awareness month for 1/4 of all their matches? I don't see that happening do you? No, and men aren't asking for it because we realize it's their sport and we don't want to impose ourselves on it. Women should afford us the same courtesy and not try to force this stupid pink color all over the NFL for 1/4th of the entire NFL season. What's right is right, and this just isnt' right.
I think most people have been affected by cancer at some point in their lives. It's true, you really have to be living under a rock to be unaware of it at this point. I know guys like to touch boobs, but this is a piss poor excuse (part of me thinks this is the main reason behind it). You don't see the military putting on pink uniforms to spread awareness over seas. Most NFL fans = men. Why not try to spread awareness of cancers that could affect men as well, since you know that's the biggest demographic? The fact that I know 3 separate breast cancer survivors shows the awareness is out there. Like any type of cancer, catching it early is the most important thing. I bet more men are aware of breast cancer, than testicular, pancreatic or prostate cancer. Why not spread this awareness of these cancers when most fans are men? Now I'm certainly not saying there aren't a good amount of female fans as well, some "polls" "claim" 45% of superbowl watchers, but again, they don't poll everyone, and a lot of people only watch the superbowl, not the whole season and some only watch for the commercials. It would make sense to try to save men's lives too, would it not? Isn't saving lives the goal? So why spread breast cancer awareness in a male dominated gladiator sport? Aren't there better places? Again, I know it's for cancer awareness and it's a good thing. But, IMO the real reason for this pink takeover is to target more female viewers. They have been changing rules and making the game more friendly for women since Goodell took over. This is just another ploy to do the same.
That's how I feel. I think it's great. Couldn't care less about the pink. Maybe it's because I've had family members fight breast cancer. I'm sure it's making my opinion biased, but I think the more to raise awareness and $$ for a good cause, the better.
Perhaps you should actually read the thread. People are not arguing that cancer awareness is bad. To me this is just an emotional plea, seemingly putting yourself on a higher moral ground than others and talking down to them as a result. I've lost family members to cancer as well, and my uncle is currently suffering from prostate cancer. It's no joke. But it's a complete red herring. We are talking about the color pink and why they don't spread awareness for cancers that affect men as well. Nobody's saying that cancer awareness is bad or that it should stop. I'm not sure why people are treating this thread like an attack on cancer victims. It's not. Pink is just ugly, that's all.
I must disagree with that. More is not always better. Too much of something can actually turn the target audience off to your message. By forcing such an overwhelming amount of pink on everyone without their say so is bound to get them disgusted with the message itself. Rather than turning people on to the cause you get a "Oh damn here's this stupid pink color again" response. Soon after that the message is totally tuned out completely. Donating to cancer research should be a SUGGESTION, not a DEMAND. If you hit somebody over the head with something, even if its for a good cause, they will begin to hate it and won't contribute to it regardless of how good it is.
Fair enough BG. I completely understand your POV. I however, respectfully disagree. Again, as I stated in my post, my opinion is no doubt biased due to experiences within my family. I also understand that everyone is affected differently, which is why I understand what you are saying.
WTF?? How did you get anything like that from my post? Allow me to clarify. I don't find it distracting. I don't feel it lasts too long. I agree that instead of a month, they could use the time to raise awareness for other causes. I, in no way, shape, or form am treating this thread like an attack on cancer victims. I'm sorry your family and yourself have been affected by cancer, or any other disease for that matter. I hope your uncle gets better. I admitted that my opinion on this is biased due to personal experience in the post you quoted. I did not say they way I'm affected is the correct way. I'm simply trying to say I don't find it distracting at all probably because I know what it represents. If players were all wearing pink for shits and giggles, I'm sure it would seem very distracting to me.
The "Breast Cancer Awareness" is all a big scam. It's the politically correct thing right now. Some people really mean well by doing it. And it's good that people are aware, but I think its often done so that some people can act like they are doing a good and moral thing by wearing pink. What about other diseases and other cancers? It's about selling merchandise. Let's face it, breast cancer awareness sells. And it's about attracting the female audience to football and getting more pink merchandise sold. The best cure or prevention for cancer is a more natural diet (instead of our processed food) and a diet loaded with vegetables. The best solution is not more drugs. Nobody ever says this. I'd rather have prevention than have to go through chemo and get parts of my body cut on and removed. And who knows where all the money goes from all the pink jersey and pink merchandise sales. I bet only a fraction actually goes to anything that is truly a good solution for breast cancer. Sorry for this opinion if it offends anyone. It just stinks of BS to me.
