Tannehill has crap to work with on offense. Outside of maybe Devontae Parker -a rookie - he has no one to work with. At least we have Ivory, Marshall and Decker. I'd take Tannehill long-term over Geno or Fitz in a heartbeat.
LOL, not so much for the matter in which he coached, but more for the "talk-first aura" he brought to the team. On an unrelated note, I will say that if there is one thing IMO consistently broken with the Jets going back a bunch of years, is the lack of an over arching strategy for building a team and the needed separation between coach and GM for personnel selection. We have been exposed to a mediocre draft strategy, a significant lack of appreciation for depth and youth movement, unnecessary trades in the draft for questionable value, or reaching out for work out warriors instead of football players, and above all the uncanny desire to consistently trade away the future via the draft while over paying for one year wonders through free agency. We are about to find ourselves at the cross roads of a major dilema, the replacement of our backbone in the OL, a much needed TE, QB, LB core and even RB, yet there is very little in the pipeline we can draw from. I'm a firm believer that consistently good teams are very draft savvy, and the rest always play catch up. Our new GM is far more critical than any other position on this team, he is the catalyst to steer us on the right track. Decent start, but long way to go.
I couldn't agree more. If Mac is as good as I think and hope he is, we're in great hands. Even if not, he appears at least to be better than anyone we've had in a long time (although that's not saying much, if anything), and we should be a little better off than we were. It would be hard for him to be any worse than what has preceded him during the last 10-20 years. Still, as you say, this is a critical make or break juncture for the franchise. We could be set up for a perennial contender, or continue to be a wanna be, struggling along. For certain, we can't afford to trade away picks or miss on the key picks like QB, LT, OLB, ILB, and RB. I'm really hoping and praying that Petty turns out to be at least a reliable starter. If he can develop into a franchise QB, so much the better. He has a chance, but I know that's expecting a lot from a 4th round pick. But hey, the Pats got lucky with Brady. Why can't we get "lucky" for once? If Petty does develop into a quality starter, that will take a LOT of pressure off the upcoming drafts.
Tannehill over Geno in a heartbeat? Absolutely.......Over Fitz?........I pause and give that a second thought.
I am the same way. my hatred for the dolphins is so much more than any other team. beating them twice makes a lot of things ok. it doesn't have the shine that it did a long time ago because they have been bad for so long but it still feels great to beat those assholes twice in a year.
