Because when you have a rookie QB, you dont trade last years AFC leading rusher and give him a rookie 3rd round RB(who I love), and Leon (who I also love), lets be real, Leon's not big enough to take continued hits that starting running backs take in the NFL. As for Green, he'll be there, and he'll be great for us, just not yet. One year in college and now he's ready to step in and take control of our running game? No.
the last thing sanchez needs is a star receive who demands the game flows through him. more of a distraction from a power running game than anything. forget about it....
There is no evidence to suggest that Leon isn't big enough to be a starting runningback in the NFL. There are examples of RB's Leons size being starting RB's though. There are also plenty of examples of rookie runningbacks coming in and handling the load. I think the plan is to get Leon more carries anyway.
Umm...My point is that the coaches are the guys paid to teach Greene, Not Jones. Who says that Jones will even want to help the guy? He didn't help benson, even though Benson didn't help himself... Also, I would argue that learning from our coaching staff and getting more playing time he would benefit more than Thomas Jones "teaching" Greene. I think Leon can carry more weight than people give him credit for. And I agree with the point that RB is the easiest transition for a college football player
RB's are the easiest position for a rookie to excel in. Edit: I now see everyone else has jumped over this also.
If the CS plans of letting Sanchez sit for a season to learn, this would be the perfect time to trade Jones while he has some value - a 30 year old runningback usually has very limited trade value - and run a rotation of a bruiser like Greene with a speedy scatback like Leon. You are assuming (and I think very wrongly) that Sanchez starts this season. Leon is the same size as many backs in the league, including Warrick Dunn, who was Tampa's feature back for years. The size argument is weak, like your post.
Can we please start rightfully attributing Jones' success last year to improved O-line play (which is exactly what it was) and stop with this "Jones was fantastic" stuff? He played well, but he's not irreplaceable. He's not fast, nor quick, nor really that good at breaking tackles. He hits the hole decently, but not great. He's an average running back who dodges invisible tacklers from time to time. If you can make this trade straight up, you pull the trigger without question. If you have to start giving up picks, you have to start to question if Edwards is worth it, but still have to consider it. People have short memory spans apparently. Does anyone remember Thomas Jones two years ago? Didn't think so.
From what Rex has said after the draft, and what happened last season with the Ravens, I think Sanchez starts this season. If he does not, then this is a TOTALLY different story. But right now our defense is ready to be dominate NOW. Scott in his prime, Jenkins in his prime or the soon end of his prime, Shaun Ellis, D Revis, Rhodes, Harris, Pace, the list goes on. You know what I'm talking about, this defense is built to win NOW, not wait for some QB to develop. And Rex is not waiting on this team to develop. He wants to win now, with this defense that is going to be nasty! And with a top notch running game we are going to hard to beat. You clearly do not know what Rex has planned for this team (even tho he has told us all, many times) if thats what you are throwing out at me.
You're being ridiculous. Trading Jones would not hurt this team one bit. What Jones did last season was 99% of the improved OL. Look at what he did 2 years ago. He is a VERY average back.
And you're claiming to have intimate knowledge? Don't make me laugh, you haven't the foggiest clue what this team plans to do at the QB situation. Rex has been about as straightforward about the QB situation as Mangini was about injuries, and you claiming to have their master plan scoped out is a hoot, totally laughable. Stop making an ASS out of U and ME.
This article tells us nothing, other than that the writer for PFT caught wind of some scenario put together by the Cleveland Plain Dealer- all in response to a "reader question." No mention of front office personnel, no mention of agents, no mention of players giving opinion. Just one assclown copying something that another assclown put together on the back of a cocktail napkin.
If Jones continues to be a whiny bitch about his contract then I have no problem trading him and a pick for Edwards. Get it done TANNY!!
