Exactly! Who needs to spend the money on first round picks for depth? If the FO identifies a must-have 1st round prospect in 2010, we can do the same thing we've done the past two drafts: package a combination of lower round picks and move the f*ck up.
Playing against Terrell Owens and Randy Moss. That's attractive. I dunno what the Phish have. Ginn? Just hearing Cotch and Marshall? Guys puh-leese. I guess the bottom line is where do you draw the line at not getting fleeced with the other teams involved. We don't get him if another team breaks the bank. Which I have a funny feeling is gonna happen. Worst case scenario is we get Plax. Well not really, but you get my point.
If he get traded now to some other team like the Ravens or Bears, the team that gets him will most like sign him to an extension right away since money concerns (and the way injury risk can impact his future value) is Marshall's primary reason for wanting an extension and to get the hell out of Denver where he feels he was betrayed by the FO and medical staff in their failure to disclose the extent of his hip injury to him last year.
Broncos signed WR Brandon Lloyd, formerly of the Bears. A coincidence that Lloyd is signed after Brandon Marshall's reported trade request? Lloyd has a history with new quarterback Kyle Orton from their time in Chicago. Though he's shown flashes of talent, the injury-prone Lloyd never been able to string together any kind of consistent production. He's far from a lock to make the final roster.
I think it is unlikely that any team will even try to make a deal for Marshall until he is in a position to demonstrate that his hip is sound which is could be anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks from now. He also said at the end of last year that he played the season with very little sensation in his right hand due to nerve damage.
Id love too see a WR core of MArshall/ Cotch/ MAybe MAtt Jones/ Stuckey/ and hopefully Wallace Wright becomes our Plax but i can only dreamm
No, for 2 reasons: 1) Consider that Roy Williams cost a 1st and a 3rd rounder. Marshall is better than Williams, and will thus likely cost even more than that. Plus, if the Jets were to acquire him they'd have to dole out yet another big money long term contract which would probably constrain the team severely in a few years. 2) The Broncos aren't going to trade him. Marshall has zero leverage in this situation, and Denver just gave away their starting QB. You think they're gonna jettison their next best player just because he asked them to? Don't hold your breath.
If were going to get a talented receiver with a detrimental personality, i much rather Plax solely because he wont cost us any draft picks and marshall will.
Yeah he can play for a year then get a work release to play the rest of the seasons you want to sign him for. :breakdance:
I agree with you. The problem with some of these discussions is that you get people who all for acquiring such and such a player, but are delusional about what it would cost to actually get him. As long as people understand that you have to give up at least one high pick and a huge contract to get him, that's fine. It's when you get people who think you can get a franchise wideout for "two late-round picks" or "Thomas Jones and Brad Smith" that things become silly.
First time offenders for the same exact offense almost never end up serving any jailtime according to NY state records. Plax ends up serving 30 days AT THE MOST, if any at all, especially after this Stallworth fiasco verdict today.
You can google it yourself. The max sentence for Burress' crime is 3.5 years. Every legal expert I've read and heard has already said that first time offenders never do the max sentence for this same exact crime in NY state. Furthermore many have said that the only way he'll do any time is if they have a real hard-on for the guy. Well they do for Burress which means he'll do time just so they can make an example of him. Yet that time will be months not years.
Well, the Roy Willams deal was a mid year trade. Cost are alwys much higher on those type of emergency deals and do not apply here. On your second point, the same thing was being said about Cutler a few months ago. McDaniels has come in to prove he is the boss, if this goes on too long I would expect Marshall to be gone as well.
Ya know, normally I would scream "NO" at the top of my lungs, but even if the Jets would have to give up next year's first round pick, I think of it this way: With Marshall on the team, what would the Jets need to be an elite team? As long as Sanchez doesn't bust in epic fashion and defensive line depth is picked up in next year's draft, I don't know what would stop this team from being very competitive for years with the amount of young talent here. You know, aside from a Benny Hill injury reel.
